ValleysC4 Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Driving home yesterday and some guy pulled up beside me saying I have no brake lights what so ever. I've been told to buy a new brake light switch. Is it easy enough to change? Quote
paul.h Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 What year is your car, is it an auto gearbox, do you have cruise control ? Have you checked the bulbs have not failed and if any fuses are ok. Also on the C4 the wiring between the body and tailgate in the rubber pipe is a common failure that needs checking. Do all the other lights work and the rear wiper ? From the Hayne manual for the 2004 to 2010 C4, the switch is located on the brake pedal crossover shaft in the passenger footwell. The auto and cruise cars have 2 switches. The switch is removed by unplugging the connector and then twisting it 90° anti clockwise. To refit, check the red locking latch is in line with the locating lug on the side of the switch, fit it back in the bracket and turn 90° clockwise, fit the connector, check the switch plunger is up against the brake pedal lever bracket. ValleysC4 Posted July 2, 2016 Author Posted July 2, 2016 No sweat all done it was one of the bulbs after so I've just renewed them both anyway. Luckily some guy pulled beside me to tell me I had no lights whatsoever. I stopped in a Citroen garage on my travel home through England(I'm Welsh) explaining I had a two hour journey left and I was desperate but they didn't want to know anything I thought they would have helped me out. Oh well. Quote
jdoocey Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 Hi. I know this was a while ago now, but I have been told I need to change my Brake Light switch. For the last 3 days I have been getting fault regarding Speed Control Faulty. The Service light comes on for about 20 seconds and then goes out. It will do this every journey but only once. I have also been having issues with gear change from 1st to 2nd (auto), as in there seems to be a delay and then a slight umph when changing. But yesterday there was a big jolt….followed by "Speed Control Faulty". I have never used Cruise Control as I don't know how to, but I do have it. Oh, and this morning as soon as I turned my car on, I got a FLASHING Eml (only flashed for a few seconds then went out) with a message about Anti Pollution Fault. Do you think the Brake Light Switch really has anything to do with this? Thanks Quote
paul.h Posted June 8, 2017 Posted June 8, 2017 The fault could be all sorts of things, you need to do a diagnostic to check it. I had a message on 3 separate occasions on our C5 over a few years when accelerating on a motorway, twice towing a caravan and which flashed up a message of speed control faulty. A code reader appeared to show a turbo fault as boost pressure less than expected. I did a few checks but found nothing and did not want to start replacing lots of bits. Anyway it has not occurred for a couple of years. Our car is a manual so any speed faults would not affect the gearbox, but in your case could. Quote
