Hi all,

I have a 2.0 hdi 8 valve synergie the temperature warning light is flashing when the air con is on,I've investigated and the fan is not running at all.car doesn't overheat.is it a big job to change the fan?,or should I not worry about it and just switch off the aircon (when the light goes out)

Thanks

John

Is it the engine radiator fan that is not running or the cabin blower ? The air con should not work if both of these are not working. Also if the engine temperature is high the air con should again not work.

If it is the engine fan then it could be a relay that needs replacing rather than the fan and this may be somewhere near the fan or on the fan surround.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply,

It's the radiator fan,the heater fan is fine. Does anyone know where the relevant relay is situated?

Hi Paul, ran a 12v supply to it,it spun once and stopped. Checked the wiring to the fan with a test bulb and there's power going to it.looks like the fan is dodgy. Just wondering if it's worth the effort to change it as it doesn't overheat. Has anyone on here changed one?

Thanks

John

Hi Paul,

I have a 2.0 HDI with twin speed single fan, it was the carbon bushes on the fan which break, they are held in place by grooves along the carbon bush rather than in a square metal tube which is more common on electric motors so easily breaks away when they get low. When the bushes break the tension spring also tends to burn away as it then touches the shaft of the motor.

It is best to buy a new fan, costs around £140 but are very easy to replace, less than 1hour.
