I own an '05 c4 1.4 petrol sx. When I bought it, it had an "oil leak" on the MOT adviseries but was told it was a very small leak and nothing serious. Since i've had it there has been what I assume is oil on the floor underneath the car every day, it's more towards the drivers side where I find the oil on the floor.

EVERY time I have checked the oil it has been full, i've checked it every day for the past 3-4 weeks and the oil has still been full but from what I see underneath the car that would say otherwise.

Something that has thrown me off though, the engine coolant resevoir seems to be leaking? I fill it up, check it say for 3-4 days straight and it's full and in the same position it was in the day before, i'll check it again after a day and it will be COMPLETELY bone dry empty. A family member has looked at the car and taken this into considering and said the water pump gasket could be gone which when it leaks it splashes onto the oil which would make it seem as if there's an oil leak coming from underneath the car as oppose to water from the engine coolant?

Any ideas? I've put cardboard underneath the engine tonight and will check it tomorrow, that way I can check to confirm the colour etc of whatever is spilling underneath but does anyone have any suggestions for what this could be given the information i've provided? Thanks

The 1.4 petrol engine is prone to oil leaks at the driver's side from the head gasket. The oil way through the gasket has a rubber insert that perishes. A new gasket is the fix, if you want to bother.

I would also check the power steering fluid level is ok.
