ianhgv Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 Can anybody tell me if i can save my discs rather than replacing them?Recently bought car but discs are pitted, only 38k on th clock. How easy is it to replace them if neccesary? Quote
paul.h Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 Discs are easy enough to replace. If they are pitted new ones and new pads may be better long term and they should then last for 50k miles. If you were thinking of grinding them down then chances are they would be too thin anyway. Get a copy of the Haynes manual but also have a look at the pinned topics on the brakes on the Problems and Fixes section. The rear brakes need the calipers disconnecting (but not the brake pipe) to remove corrosion between them and the suspension arms. The handbrake cables on the front calipers should not be reconnected until the brake pedal has been used a few times after fitting the calipers back. I have moved this topic in to a subsection since ones outside of one do not show after a few days and are then hard to find. Quote
