V6BOY Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 Hey guys, I replaced the ECU BSI Key, in my mk2 Berlingo because I had BSI failure everything works fine apart from the speedometer. Did I also need the speedometer from the donor van aswel? Quote
Rookie2 Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 (edited) Not sure if the speedo is coded to the ecu, I suppose it could be but I have never heard of that before. Though i do know that on some vehicles the ECU carries the mileage and when you change the ECU the speedo registers the mileage of the donor vehicle.Have you tried a soft BSI reset ? the procedure for doing so is listed on this site somewhere, will see if I can locate it for you.Put the driver's window down, lift the bonnet and ensure all equipment is switched off. Ensure all doors are closed and remove key from the ignition. Wait for 3 minutes, disconnect the vehicle battery and wait 15 seconds. Reconnect the vehicle battery, wait a further 10 seconds (do not open doors.). Switch on the side lights through the driver's window. Switch on the ignition and check system's functionality. Hold lock button on key down for 10 seconds. Remove key open & close door test central locking system. Start the engine and complete the system's check.Failure to follow this procedure could result in incorrect operation of many BSI related items. Edited December 28, 2016 by Rookie2 Quote
paul.h Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 Was the speedo working before you changed the ecu ? I have read that the speedo and bsi both record the mileage on Citroens and if either is changed the car ecu/speedo will adopt the highest mileage of the ecu or speedo. So if the replacement ecu had more miles on it than your old one, then your speedo will then show the higher miles. Similarly if you replaced the speedo, it will show the mileage of the ecu or speedo whichever was the highest. This could be a problem with your insurance which usually has a mileage limit on it so you would need to be able to show them what had happened or you could use a company that can alter the recorded mileage. MikeLane Posted December 29, 2016 Posted December 29, 2016 V6Boy - do you mean the speedo doesn't show the vehicle's speed or just the mileage? Quote
V6BOY Posted December 29, 2016 Author Posted December 29, 2016 (edited) I've tried a BSI reset no luck, the tachometer engine temp fuel gauge still works, speedometer worked fine before. The mileage went from 50k to 180k good thinking Paul that could be a problem with insurance I didn't think of that. I have a feeling the donor vehicles ECU must of had a problem with the speedo.
