jean claude van driver Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 Hi. new to 1.6hdi, although been told shouldn't have bought one. 2010 m,y. 3 or for times gone to accelerate in 4th gear and eml comes on. also done it once in 5th. codes I get are p0238 and p1351. any ideas please. Quote
paul.h Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 How many miles has the van done ? P0238 Turbocharger Boost Sensor A Circuit HighP1351 IDM Input Circuit Malfunction/ Ignition Coil Control Circuit High Voltage Could be the turbo solenoid valve and the glow plugs, have a look at this topic http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/24099-turbo-solenoid-valve-for-citroen-c4-16hdi-p0238/ and http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/24014-car-drives-rough-and-engine-light-on-for-citroen-c4-55reg-hatchback/ but you may find it difficult to sort. It could also be the MAP sensor is faulty or needs a clean so is giving too high a pressure. Could also be the egr valve needs a clean - http://www.citroenpicasso.org.uk/picasso/index.php/topic/22082-fault-codes-p0238-and-p1351-16-hdi/ This is copied from my reply to your introduction post:Do you have the fault code and freeze frame data from when you did the diagnostic check to say it was over boost and do you have any live data of the pressure ? Possibilities can include the MAP sensor could be faulty or bunged up with oil/carbon. On a recent post the over boost for a 1.6 hdi Berlingo should be about 0.6 bar. Quote
jean claude van driver Posted January 1, 2017 Author Posted January 1, 2017 No data but I can get that .its done 150k miles. no play in turbo as I checked. is the egr easy to get to,and where is the egr. I am waiting for delivery of a turbo charger sensor and map sensor. also a new egr, all genuine. Quote
paul.h Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 You could also check for a loose fuel injector http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/20409-sombody-please-tell-me-i-havent-just-bought-a-pup/ Quote
paul.h Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 The egr valve is at the back of the engine below the fuel filter and air inlet ducting and these may need removing to get to the egr valve. At 150k miles the timing belt is due for renewal if not already done. Quote
jean claude van driver Posted January 1, 2017 Author Posted January 1, 2017 Thank you will have a look at injectors tomorrow. if loose then I will need new seals. love a citroen, gotta change my sons c3 headlight tomorrow what fun that's going to be. I will also change the dispatch fuel filter whilst under the bonnet. Quote
jean claude van driver Posted January 1, 2017 Author Posted January 1, 2017 got new belts, pulleys and tensioners, next project. the previous owner said been done, but I like to be sure. Quote
jean claude van driver Posted January 2, 2017 Author Posted January 2, 2017 New map sensor seems to have cured it. Quote
Rookie2 Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 Just out of interest, was it a genuine map or and after market cheaper one ?. I only ask because I have had quite a few map failures in the past with cheaper aftermarket ones, so knowing which after market ones actually worked would be a bonusCheers Quote
paul.h Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 I am pleased you have managed to fix this since internet searches suggest it can be difficult to do. Quote
jean claude van driver Posted January 2, 2017 Author Posted January 2, 2017 Thank you. I have taken it on a couple of 40+ mile jaunts trying to make it throw a fault. but so far so good, touch wood.281009157842. is the ebay item number, tried to copy and paste a link but wouldn't let me. moderator edit to add link (done by copying and pasting internet address). It says the part manufacturer is Citroen so maybe it is not a pattern part.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Citroen-C2-C3-C4-C5-C8-DISPATCH-BERLINGO-XSARA-PICASSO-DIESEL-MAP-SENSOR-NEW-/281009157842 Quote
Rookie2 Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 Ok, I've had as look at that, it is an unbranded one, which is interesting, it seems some work and some dont, might be worth starting to keep a list of cheaper unbranded spares which have been proven to work, as well as a list of those that dont of course. cheers Quote
