ash601 Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 ive just replaced my wishbone on the passanger side because there was a little play in it and i hate knocking noises so i ordered a new one. when i came to replace it i had a mess with the wheel and noticed the bottom ball joint was moving around where it sits so i changed that as well but when i put it all back together it is still moving around in there. and i now have no idea what is causing it so any suggestions would be helpfull thanks
paul.h Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 Welcome to the forum. Have you followed the procedures in the Haynes manual ? if you are saying the ball joint is loose in the swivel hub then either it is not the right diameter shaft or its bolt has not been tightened up enough - Haynes gives 40 Nm. Haynes also mentions a protector plate that has to be put back. Possibly there is something that is stopping the swivel hub split at the bottom being squeezed together, such as some damage caused when it was opened up so the old ball joint could be removed - if so it might need cleaning up with a file. Have a look at the other side of the car to see how it should look.
Rookie2 Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 I've had this before (he said with embarrassment) Take the bolt back out and locate the ball joint pin further into the hole. You will probably find that the pin of the ball point has is not fully located and the bolt has slid though above the taper of the pin nstead of below it.Take the bolt out, get under neath with a hammer and tap the ball joint up until you see the top of the taper sitting just above the hole of the hub.
