rednose66 Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 Hi Having been told that I "may" need to replace the DPF in my car at a cost of around £1200 from Citroen, I have been looking around. I can see a number of DPF's listed on eBay that will, apparently, fit my 2008 X7 2.2. Has anybody on here replaced a DPF with an after market one? If so from where? I am not looking at getting another 9 years out of one but if I got another few years out of this car I would be happy. Any experience? Quote
paul.h Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 Before replacing you could consider cleaning the existing one, there will be methods for diy cleaning on the internet which can be water jetting to remove the ash and maybe using a caustic solution to help clean the soot out. Quote
Rookie2 Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 rednose66 If your exhaust is the split flange type with the Cat in the front and the DPF behind it, then as Paul states, jet washing is by far the best way to clean them. When finished it help to put the dpf into a very warm oven for a couple of hours to dry out otherwise the water still in there gives the "DPF Blocked" warning. rednose66 Posted January 31, 2017 Author Posted January 31, 2017 Thanks chaps once I am home freezing Spain I will take a look. Quote
aspire_helen Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 NoteThere are 2 types of substrate (the filter material) inside DPFs - Silicone Carbide (SiC) and Cordierite. SiC is more expensive (£400ish), Cordierite (£130) is cheaper. Citroen OE fit are SiC. Cordierite is marginally less porous. However, Cordierite will do the job if your car is more than a few years old and not a sports car. Quote
rednose66 Posted May 11, 2018 Author Posted May 11, 2018 So...... As it turns out I dont think the dpf is on its way out. I replaced the diesel filter which seems to have got the dpf regenerating again. I was getting fuel pressure errors which I suspect were related to the blocked filter and causing the dpf to not regenerate. Quote
paul.h Posted May 11, 2018 Posted May 11, 2018 Good to see it was not the dpf. At least replacing the fuel filter is a regular service item so to fix the problem has effectively not cost anything. I am not sure but frequency of the fuel filter replacement is about every 40k miles or possibly 4 years if sooner, with annual draining of water from it. Early C5 models replacement may be every 2 years or 24k miles Quote
