simon180399 Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 Good afternoon,This is my first post as only just joined the forum.I have a 2004 berlingo multispace 1.9 diesel, and for some reason I cannot open the sliding doors from the inside. They open perfectly fine using the handle on the outside of the car. I have read many comments on google with people saying the can open from the inside but not the outside! mine has the opposite problem. I read it is a pin on the inside that could have snapped and leaves the outside handle flapping, this is not the case on my berlingo as my handles are stiff, its the same with both doors. I have also checked the child locks are not on. If anyone could assist it would really be helpful as the thought of being in an accident and my children not being able to escape is not a very pleasant one. Quote
paul.h Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 Welcome to the forum. The C5 can suffer from something a bit similar but I do not know if it is the same problem. I suspect you will need to remove the door card/trim to have a look at the lock and its mechanism. This is from the C5 Common Problems topic: 14. Rear door will not open from the inside and outside. This has not happened to our C5s but it is a common problem. To fix: remove the door card, it is awkward with the door shut but can be doneonce removed, follow the rod to the door lock and remove the white plastic covernow try to look into the door and you will see the insides of the lockuse a screwdriver and push the lever down on the inside of the lock and the door will openreplace the lock with a different one. This link includes a picture of the lock mechanism which may help http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DOOR-LOCK-MECHANISM-LATCH-CONTROL-REAR-SLIDING-PEUGEOT-PARTNER-BERLINGO-9138H2-/360601088800 Quote
simon180399 Posted February 5, 2017 Author Posted February 5, 2017 thank you for replying, i will attempt to remove the door card and see if there is anything obvious that doesn't look right.kind regards simon Quote
paul.h Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 Having a second thought with both doors being affected, I wonder if it is something to do with the child locks. I do not have a manual for a 2004 car but in one for a 2008 Berlingo it says the child locks can be done manually as well as electrically. If not already done you could try to put the child locks on and off using both methods to see if it makes a difference. This is copied from the 2008 manual from here http://service.citroen.com/ddb/Manual modeA label indicates the location of thechild lock.- Open fully past the point ofresistance.- Tilt the lever, located on the rearsection of the door.Depending on the confi guration of yourvehicle, a message confi rming theactivation of the child lock appears onthe display.Electric modeWith the ignition on, pressthis button. The diode comeson, accompanied by amessage on the display.Warning: this system isindependent of the central lockingcontrol.Always remove the ignition key whenleaving the vehicle, even for a shorttime. It is advisable to check the activation ofthe child lock each time the ignition isswitched on.In the event of a serious impact theelectric child lock is deactivatedautomatically. simon180399 Posted February 9, 2017 Author Posted February 9, 2017 hi paul, thanks for your notes.I have mended them now, the passenger side needed a very slight adjustment to a link rod. Quote
simon180399 Posted February 9, 2017 Author Posted February 9, 2017 following on from the above ~(bloody keyboard!) the drivers side mechanism appears to be broken inside and had already been played with by some previous owner. I ended up cutting out a small rectangle in the door card that allows for me to pull back the large steel block thats part of the mechanism and hey presto it works like a charm. Im not too worried about the aesthetics as im turning it into a micro camper anyway. (pics to follow soon). thanks again Paul, regards Simon Quote
paul.h Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 Good to hear it has been fixed and at no cost. For the MOT the rear doors will need to be able to open from the inside so a permanent fix may be needed eventually. Quote
