steelseries Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 I recently have a broken spring driver's side so got both side replaced by a mobile mechanic and now have a knocking noise when driving, went and got 2 different garages to check his work out - both said there don't want to to fixing other people's work as usual. Anyway told and spoke to a few of the lads at work and there noticed what the garages didn't - the rubber mount's at the top of the strut's where missing which i knew where there before hand. How do i identify the part number for these? Also noticed the prise centre dust caps for the centre bolt is missing and the anti roll bars rubber is twisted whic he replaced also - do these need bushed? Some say yes others say no My car is a c3 2003 model 5 door desire 1.4 Thanks Quote
Rookie2 Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 (edited) Hi Steelseries. First of all - looking at the photo of the strut top, you should not drive that car for the present time.It looks to me like the "Strut Top Bearing" has gone. - if you get hold of the front spring from inside the wheel arch area, see if you can pul and push the spring horizontally in and out. You should not see any lateral mopvement on the strut top (Photo). If you do then it means the stut top bearing has gone, or, your mobile mechanic has bodged putting it back together.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-x-Citroen-C2-C3-inc-Picasso-Front-Suspension-Top-Strut-Mount-Bearing-03-On-/122281362030?hash=item1c7889826e:g:UOIAAOSw6DtYXO5d The other photos you show are of the "Drop Links" - You need to loosen the nuts on the ends of the drop links, dont worry, nothing will fly out or go bang, rhe drop links are under slight pressure from the Torsion bar, but you should be strong enough to overcome that pressure yourself. So loosen the nut then put a Allen Key into the end of the bolt. Turn the bolt until the rubber untwists and lies straight. Then replace the nuts using the allen key to hold the bolt straight whilst your spanner tightens the nut. Repeat that on the other drop links which need to have the rubbers straightened. Thirdly !!!!!!!! Do not use that mobile mechanic again, he is a danger to you and everybody else on the road. drop me a line if you are having trouble trying to understand, it's an easy job to do just really difficult to explain. cheers Edited March 17, 2017 by Rookie2 Quote
steelseries Posted March 18, 2017 Author Posted March 18, 2017 Had the car to another garage for a third opinion and there priced the bearing's and rubber mount up at £193 plus £45 tracking and there suspect the driver's side bearing has gone also, there had the car for 2 hours so all in at £419 The car is now listed locally on gumtree as spares or repair thanks for the opinion anyway but i know i can get a car with 12 months MOT for the money it will cost it repair that and my MOT in June Quote
paul.h Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 I had the front springs replaced on our 2003 C3 when one failed but it was replaced without cost to us by the dealer (Citroen do this if the car is not too old). After there was a knock at one side and I found the top bearing at this side was then faulty so replaced it myself, from memory the parts were about £60. It did not need the tracking doing so I suspect you also would not have needed it doing. Quote
