HomeGrown Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Folks, could anyone tell me where the fuel filter is located on C8 2006 petrol 2.0l 16v ,please? I am struggling with the idea that it's in the fuel tank but I can't locate it. thank you. Quote
paul.h Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 Welcome to the forum. If you have a transverse exhaust the parts diagrams do not show a fuel filter. Otherwise it shows one on the fuel pipe coming from the top of the fuel tank level sensor/pump. It is hard to tell where it is from the diagrams but could be in front of the tank at the driver's side. If you can not find an external filter then it is part of the level sensor/pump and this does not need changing which would require the fuel tank to be partly lowered. Quote
HomeGrown Posted March 22, 2017 Author Posted March 22, 2017 Thanks for the welcome and the helpful response Paul. I did download one of these workshop manuals that had the diagram you mentioned for my VIN, see image attached. Looking at this I assumed that the fuel filter would be on the outside but no joy. I have dropped the fuel tank completely and it's is no where to be see. The fuel pump only has one pipe coming out not two as in the diagram. Any other thoughts would be very welcomed. Quote
paul.h Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 Are you having running problems that makes you want to change a fuel filter ? If you look at the diagram you have shown, pipe 21 is not a listed part so may be the one installed if there is not a fuel filter, which means there should only be the one pipe. Since you can not find a filter then I would forget about it if the car is running ok. Quote
HomeGrown Posted March 24, 2017 Author Posted March 24, 2017 Thanks Paul. Unfortunately, there is an issue with the car stalling at idle when the engine is warm. From a bit of research it looks like it could be the fuel filter or oxygen sensor. Any thoughts? Quote
Simple Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 It is unlikely to be the filter if it does it when warm, did you try some petrol additives to clean the injectors? For proper analysis you need to connect the Lexia device and check the various readings, but you may have an air leak somewhere.. Quote
paul.h Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 Another thing to do is clean the throttle plate and body since if there is a build up of carbon it stops the air getting through the small gap at idle and can cause stalling at idle, often when slowing down at a roundabout. Use a carb cleaner spray or a cloth damp with white spirit /turps to wipe it clean. I usually do this each service if I have a petrol car. Also check if the air filter needs replacing. I also agree it is unlikely to be a fuel filter problem, if blocked it would restrict the flow more at higher engine speeds when more petrol is needed. To check an oxygen (lambda) sensor you are better using a code reader with live data to see if it is switching - the inlet one should be constantly switching about 1.0 and the cat outlet one should be stable. Is the temperature gauge showing normal once warm - if not it may be giving the wrong fuel/air mixture. Could also be the egr valve needs cleaning in case it is not sealing fully. Ones on diesel cars are known for needing cleaning but also the ones on petrol cars suffer from carbon build up. Quote
