Gnawman1 Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 This morning a Oil level management invalid warning came up on start up. has anyone had a similar issue and is it safe to drive? There is sufficient oil and it was only serviced two weeks ago. Your assistance is much appreciated. Thanks Quote
Rookie2 Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 The oil level light can also illuminate duw to lack of oil pressure. However, as the car was serviced only recently, the first step would be to confirm there is no oil leaking from the engine from a poorly fitted oil filter or oil drain plug etc.Are there any traces of oil on the floor beneath the car.Does the oil level dip stick still show "Full"How many miles has the car done and is there any smoke coming out of the exhaust Quote
Gnawman1 Posted March 30, 2017 Author Posted March 30, 2017 Thanks for your prompt response. The car has only done 17,000 miles and is 3 years old. I cannot see any oil on the floor and there appears to be oil on the dipstick.. There isn't any smoke coming out of the exhaust. Quote
Rookie2 Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 HiOk, was this just a one off event or is it something that is still happening ?If a one off event then I would simply monitor the situation in the belief that it was nothing more than an electrical glitch. If you know someone near you with a code reader then it would be worth getting a reading just to see if there are any codes registered cheers Quote
paul.h Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 If the car is not yet 3 years old it will still have a Citroen warranty and you should take it back to the dealer. It could be the oil level probe that goes in to the sump is faulty or its wiring. Depending on which engine and model your car is, the level probe may be at the back of the engine or at the front. Before starting the engine and the dash is lit up, does the oil can symbol light up and then go out once the engine is running - just to check the oil pressure is ok. Also have a read of this from the Commom Problems topic in case it is a faulty fuel pump relay needing a new fuse box: 33. New C5 (mark 3/X7) very low engine oil pressure warning and cuts out. Also warning messages for depollution fault and eps fault and possibly dpf full. This may be a common problem and appears to be a fault with the fuel pump relay needing the engine compartment fuse box to be replaced, or possibly cleaned. Gnawman1 Posted March 31, 2017 Author Posted March 31, 2017 Cheers for all you assistance. This only started yesterday morning. The oil level is fine. I have spoken to the Citroen garage and they say as long as the oil level is ok and the oil pressure light does not come on I am ok until it can be looked at. I have booked the car in for investigation next week. Typical that the car has just gone out of warranty as its 37 months old. I will let you know what the outcome is. Thanks once again for you comments. Quote
citroen709 Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 I had this problem for over three months before it was cured. Several attempts were made locally (in Melbourne) before they decided to go to France for diagnostics. Then the dealer rang to say they needed the car for a couple of days as they had 10 pages of checks to do. Finally found the problem to be an overfilled sump. It seems that the oil level must not reach the full mark on the dip stick but only go to the mark directly below the full mark. My next service came and I went to an unauthorized Citroen dealer and did not mention this until I picked up my C5. This gentleman told me he had known about the problem for a few years and that the oil level must never be filled to the top mark of the dip stick. My next service will be here and not at the dealer. paul.h Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 Was the problem then sorted by just lowering the oil level or did it need a reset or something ? We do not know if Gnawman1's car was fixed since despite saying he would report back, he has not yet done so. I will try a message to try to find out. Quote
citroen709 Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 The dealer told me to make sure that I never had the oil level filled to the top mark on the dipstick but to the mark below that one. The chap that did my last service told me that too much oil will cause the faulty reading. While I was having the problem and the dealer was trying various cures, the problem would go away for up to a week then come back. I have now not seen the problem for five weeks so hopefully it all rests with the oil level. There were no reset solutions as far as I know. Quote
