onix45 Posted May 6, 2017 Posted May 6, 2017 Hello, I have a C4 2013 1.6 eHDi with about 30k miles on it. I would like to disable the EGR system and do profesional remap, but i want to leave the DPF system running. Some peole say disabling the EGR will significantly shorten the life of the DPF. So do you think this is a good idea? Will there be any other negatives that i am not aware of? Thank you. P.S. please note that i live in a country where what i am about to do is legal if you do it right. Quote
paul.h Posted May 6, 2017 Posted May 6, 2017 Welcome to the forum. Why do you need to disable the egr system, is it giving running problems ? The egr system recycles exhaust gases to cool the combustion to reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides. On newer diesels adblue is also added to further reduce these gases. A lot of the health concerns and possible future restrictions on diesels in towns is from the emission of these gases as well as the particulates. If you live outside Europe then maybe there is not the concern about the emissions / affect on health. I have not disabled an egr valve so the following is just a guess. I am not sure on the effect on running but the combustion might be hotter which could give better combustion and maybe less particulates - if so it might help the dpf. However, the engine/controls will not have been designed for this so it may not run as well and possibly the egr system might block up so when it is put back to original when you want to sell it, it might need a good clean. Rookie2 Posted May 7, 2017 Posted May 7, 2017 I have had both the EGR and PF written out of my C8 ECU. The car runs far far better, better performance, more economical and no dashboard traffic lights flashing away like mad.Lets be honest, pumping burnt exhaust gas back through an engine that thrives on good clean oxygen is a ridiculous thing to do. Many of these gimmicks such as EGR and DPF probably show a considerable difference on a fairly new vehicle but on a worn engine the ECU is incapable of keeping up with the large fluctuations in adjustment needed to try to tune the engines within limits It will not be long before the UK government are offering diesel vehicles owners vast sums of money to scrap perfectly good cars, simply because they forced the manufacturers to concentrate on everything except NOX..I do know that in the area of Cornwall where I live, at least 50% of the cars I get in for repair have their EGR's blanked. Of course the choice is up to the individual and how much trust you can put into the information given out by manufacturers an government, personally I dont trust either of them. Cheers Quote
