Wackford Squeers Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 HiI have 2002 Xsara Picasso, 1600 petrol. I just had a service inc oil change. The first time I check the oil level since I find the tip has broken off the dipstick. The mechanic said they always do that and that Citroen should have known better? So, I try my friend with an identical car's dipstick but his identical dipstick won't go all the way in my dipstick aperture, as if it is butting up to the broken off bit which is held captive at the bottom of the dipstick orifice? I cannot see how much oil is in the engine as only a small amount of tip is left on the dipstick. I check the oil filler cap, it never looks oily enough for me in there. I should have plenty of oil but I can't carry on like this!!!Any suggestions please brothers. Wackford Quote
paul.h Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Welcome to the forum. The plastic bits breaking off the ends is quite common. I think initially Citroen would remove the engine sump to recover the end bit but later decided they would not likely cause any damage so stopped. You could ask a Citroen dealer for advice since they will have come across this often. You could try poking some wire down the tube to see if it hits the plastic bit and measure how far it has gone in against the remainder of the dip stick. You can remove the tube, it is held by 1 or 2 bolts to see if you can see the plastic bit and maybe push the bit in to the sump if you can not extract it. Quote
