Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum and this is my first post.

I bought my 2009 hdi hydractive 3 c5 in March 2016 and i've noticed an excessive tyre wear. The front toyo tyres are worn out after just 10k km and the rear nexen tyres in 5k km. It was fitted with Bridgestone tyres when I bought the car and they worn out quickly as well.

The tyres are equally worn out and there is no suspension problems on the car.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Cheers

Welcome to the forum.

I have copied this from your other similar topic which is now deleted:

Hi Guys,

I've got a Citroen C5 2009 2.0 HDI with Hydractive suspension. I've noticed excessive tyre wear on both front and rear suspension.

The front tyres last only 10,000 KM while the rear ones at 5000 KM. The wheel is of 19". There is no suspension noise and the tyres wear evenly across.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Regards,

Shameem

How do you drive the car, enthusiastically or gently since this can affect how long the tyres last. On Citroens I have used Michelins and these can give about 40k miles on the front and more on the back. The C5 though may be less but I have not yet worn any out since I do not do many miles each year.

Which country are you in and are the roads in good condition, just thinking of anything that might cause the tyres to wear too quickly. What speeds do you drive at ?

Since the tyres are wearing evenly it suggests there is nothing wrong with the car. On previous cars did you have the same problem of tyre wear ? The worst tyres I had for wearing quickly were India ones in the 1980s which wore down to the metal wires/inner material in 5000 miles (8000 km) and they were cheap to buy but not worth it, other makes on that car gave about 15000 miles.

Nexen tyres may not last long https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=723443 but there seem to be other reports saying differently but it may depend on which type of Nexen tyres are used and how recent they are.

I'm from Mauritius and I've never had such kind of issues previously and other C5 owners I know are not facing this issue.

The only difference is that mine is a 19" wheel.

Just looked up the speed limits in Mauritius and they are similar to the UK so it can not be excess speed that is causing the tyre wear.

We could do with some input from somebody with 19 inch wheels to see what wear they are getting. On our C5 they are 16 inch ones.
