spiff Posted July 30, 2017 Posted July 30, 2017 Good evening after a sunny day in Mullion Cove Cornwall. I am looking for the type of Automatic transmission oil for our 1997 petrol 2003 C5 estate. The log book has not been returned by the DVLA yet, and none of the labels under the bonnet give the exact model ? God Bless Spiff Quote
spiff Posted July 31, 2017 Author Posted July 31, 2017 (edited) Image of engine added : ) Log book arrived but no help. God Bless Spiff Edited July 31, 2017 by spiff Quote
paul.h Posted July 31, 2017 Posted July 31, 2017 If you want the exact model of your car and its parts you can use the VIN (VIS) from the bottom of the windscreen or V5C and put this in the parts diagrams. Register on the service.citroen site as an other professional non emergency services and then as a member of the Citroen Owners Club. Once on the site put your VIN top left to find your car. Then at the left column look under Characteristics and it will give you details of your car. http://service.citroen.com/pages/index.jsp you might have to select your language first and the register button is top right. Within the VIN and on the engine sticker is the engine code RFN which means it is a petrol 2 litre EW10 J4 engine https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PSA_EW/DW_engine . On the sides of the car there should be badges that give the model trim such as SX, LX, VTR, exclusive. However, looking at your garage photo, there do not seem to be any badges but it has plastic wheel trims so is probably the SX model. The leather seats though could have been an option or maybe a retrofit from another car. Quote
spiff Posted August 1, 2017 Author Posted August 1, 2017 Thank you very much for all the information : ) As well as the leather seats it has bits of woods effect trim. We like the early model more than the later C5s, if we are fortunate enough to find a low miles garaged one, we may swap the seats and trim. A diesel with manual box perhaps for fuel consumption. That is a striking picture of a vintage bus, I came across a site on trolley busses a while back that was fascinating, lots of images, now we are looking to go back to electric cars : ) God Bless Spiff Quote
paul.h Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 The old bus is at the Beamish museum, well worth a day out if you are near Durham. Quote
spiff Posted August 2, 2017 Author Posted August 2, 2017 Good evening from a windy Mullion Cove Cornwall. Lots of reading has led me to believe that the AL4 auto box Citroen fluid no 9736 22 is the same or can be replaced or topped up with Mobil / Esso LT71141 ? The attached image states their product as LT71141 it also specifically mentions Citroen ? Any advice appreciated. God Bless Spiff Quote
paul.h Posted August 3, 2017 Posted August 3, 2017 May be you could contact the oil supplier for advice so they have some responsibility. At the end of the day, if you are unsure about what you are putting in, the risk is the gearbox may not work properly. You could see what the cost difference is between using a Citroen dealer to do the oil change and doing it yourself and see if you think the difference is enough to risk not using the right oil.
