Morning All

I have a Citroen C3 56 Plate 2007 1.4 8V with:-

P0201 Injector Circuit/Open -Cylinder 1

P0204 Injector Circuit/Open -Cylinder 4

Put Injectors 1 in to 2 and 4 in 3 Same codes as above  <_<

This problem has been going on for 4 or so months, as its been on my drive.

I turn car over and it tries to start pump the peddle and after a few goes it starts with continually pressing the peddle

It then is able to run on idle very badly. I try to accelerate to 1000 rpm with a real struggle after a while it is able to.

Then the same to 2000 rpm, 3000 rpm & 4000 rpm and will not go over that it seems like its struggling.

Push the accelerate further down but still stays the same, so it seems the accelerate is traveling down but nothing is

happening with the rpm. This is the same for each 1 2 3 & 4000 rpm until it manages to go above, but not 4000 rpm

It seems to be wiping out petrol too I need to put some in it as it has 1 bar left. At the moment since it cam back from the

mechanics it seems considerably worse as it will not stay started at the moment. I do not want to keep trying as I do not have

much petrol left, until I go and get some. I have been receiving 02 Oxygen Sensors faulting before P0132 & P0138

Sensor Circuit High Voltage Bank 1 Senor 1 & 2.  P1336 Unknown Diagnostics Trouble Code. I found that to maybe be

the cam shaft sensor but from my investigation if they are correct my car does not have one only has crankshaft sensor.

I have called out home service several times and pretended that I was off to a meeting and needed the car started.

Coming back from talking to the mechanics on 2 occasions the car bust into life again, but had to crawl up there in the first

instance

Recovery in the dark on 3 occasions to be to precise. While turning the car over trying to progress through

the RPM as above the CAT started to glow bright red hot hmmmm not good. Then while waiting with recovery and talking,

the car just burst into life i.e. running normal and drove home.

OK now the BITS

Replaced 02 Oxygen Sensor Up Stream & Down Stream

Replaced CAT

Replaced Spark Plugs

Replace Coil Pack

Cleaned all 4 injectors 3 times in all with Fuel Injector Cleaner and squirted it through with 9V battery current 3 jets on each

Replace all O Rings on injectors that were just an even little bit damaged

Tested Resistance to the Coil Pack

Cleaned and Tested Resistance to the plugs

Tested Resistance to all 4 injectors

Tested Continuity on the Injectors Loom  (Not where the loom plugs into the ECU harness by the Bulk Head to the ECU)

Not Tested Harness

Checked all 3 ECU plugs 2 X 32 Pins and 1 X 48 Pins 1st 32 Pin is where I believe the harness that the loom plugs into goes

Followed the ECU power off procedure and power up.

Yesterday was the ECU harness check and the first  32 Pin had corrosion cleaned it

Car still the same

I have lots of images

Can anybody help me please

Desperate in Kent

Welcome to the forum.

For some reason Citroen number the cylinders from the gearbox end on the C3, so cylinder no. 1 is nearest the gearbox. If moving the injectors does not change the cylinder nos. in the fault codes then that probably suggests a wiring/connector fault. If water has got in to the ecu plug to cause corrosion then maybe some has also got in to the ecu. It may also have corroded the wiring. Do the washer pump and wipers work, I read somewhere that water can travel along the washer pump wiring to the ecu.

We had a 2003 1.4 petrol C3 on which 2 injectors failed after heavy rain (a common fault since water can drip on to them through the washer jet/bonnet hole and from leaks on the washer jet pipes) and that went to limp mode which limits the rpm and caused it to run with a very bad misfire. It was fixed by the dealer under warranty.

In your case, possibly the injectors are ok but maybe a fault is putting in too much petrol or it is not igniting which might explain the cat getting red hot. This could also explain why the inlet lambda sensor needed replacing.

P1336 Crank / Cam Sensor Range / Performance - this code suggests a problem with the crankshaft sensor. This is located on top of the bellhousing so you could check its wiring and if it is clean but a new one is not expensive. These can fail as they get hot and stop the car but once cool will allow it to run again until it gets hot. You could check the resistance across its connector to see if it is open circuit when the car will not run.

If you are unable to fix the car yourself then you would be better using a Citroen dealer who will have the correct diagnostic equipment to do a full check of the car.

Thanks for the prompt reply

Very imformative.

I read the Wiper and Squirter problem too. Though it said it was fixed in the 2007 models.

If the ECU I get it refurbed or second hand replaced provided that the pin code and mieage go accross

But I expect they have software for that.

Its amazing how water did get there as I have to big battery covers and the harness clips on ECU look pretty water tight

But it is what it is.

I took it to Citroen today they said Injectors 1 & 2 and ECU  but I am not sure how they came to that conclusion as they had not started on it by 3 and I picked it up a 4. Just seemed that they just read the codes

And quoted me £1900 WOW

I will have a think and get back and thanks again

I would want another car for £1900, not just a couple of injectors and an ecu. Having your ecu refurbished may be the best option plus a couple of used injectors. If you go for a used ecu you then have to have the keys to go with it with the immobiliser chips to put in to your keys, also your radio would need coding to the ecu so it continues to work. There might be other things but I am not sure. It may be possible for you to have a look inside your ecu to see if it does look damaged before commiting to spending anything.

Was anything said about the crankshaft sensor ?

Citroen sell a rubbery/plastic washer to put under the washer jets to help seal them against the bonnet but I went for sealant instead. This could be the 2007 fix. This is copied from the C3 Common Problems topic:

2. Petrol injector failure.

Replaced free by our dealer under warranty. The engine had a very bad misfire and the engine management light came on. Caused by water dripping on the injector from the washer pipe connections and through the bonnet washer jet holes. Prevention is to put sealant under the washer jet and to change the plastic washer piping to flexible rubber to seal better and move any joints to the side of the bonnet. If the engine is only a bit juddery without the management light coming on, it may be worth replacing the spark plugs before condemning the injectors.
