Hi. As I've solved the charging system failure, i would like your opinion or expertiese about ABS on C3/Pluriel as MOT is due next month.

When steering more than 1/2 turn left or right at stand still or low speed the ABS light comes on falowed by the 3 beeps. If the care is droven straight or very little steering, abs light stays off and all works good.

I have suspended the front end to check plugs and even abs sensors and no matter how much i have steer, the ABS light stays off.

That is making me believe that it might be a suspension/drivetrain/ bearings problem which only occures under weight stress of the car.

Anyone had this kind of problem?

Any ideas?

Cheers.

You could check the front abs sensor's wring in case moving it when turning is disturbing it or there is a break in it.  Check for front wheel bearing play with a wheel jacked up and then holding it top and bottom and waggling the wheel. If there is bearing play then usually you would get  whine, increasing in volume as the speed increases.

Ideally though you would use a code reader that does abs to see what the fault is. You might also have a steering angle sensor and if so this could be faulty.

Hi Paul. Steering angle sensor i would imagine it would light up the abs also when front end is lifted and steer l/r all the way ... right?

I haven't checked the bearings as you said ... i will next time i'll lift it up. Cheers.

Question: is ecu reading abs sensors to show up the speed on dash, or is there any other speed sensor in the gearbox?

Cheers.

This post suggests the abs sensors at the front are sensitive to the bearing position since if the retaining circlip is in the wrong place it can push the target out of place https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=55007

I guess the problem you have without doing the diagnostic check, you may end up replacing parts that are ok until you get to the faulty one.

Does your car have esp - if not since many of the C3s do not have it, there may not be a steering angle sensor. If your car does not have esp then there could be a speed sensor on the gearbox differential rather than using the abs sensors.

Possibly you could jack up a front wheel in turn with the other still on the ground to see if the abs light comes on when turning the steering wheel. This might help identify the location of the fault if a bearing or wiring.
