rachyh78 Posted October 13, 2017 Posted October 13, 2017 Hi wonder if anyone can help me my engine management light just came on as I was driving home from work and message displayed on screen said engine fault repair needed. I've looked it up and apparently its an emissions system fault, I have a 2011 C4 1.6 and I don't know if this is something serious or if its still drivable for now? Kinda scared its going to blow up on me  any advice would be greatly received as I haven't got a clue and have had bad experiences with garages ripping me off so I'm reluctant to go rushing in with it. Thank you!! Quote
paul.h Posted October 13, 2017 Posted October 13, 2017 Welcome to the forum. Unless there is something obviously wrong around the engine, the only way to find out the fault is to use a code reader to read the fault code which will indicate what could be wrong. If you do not have access to a code reader then it is cheaper to buy one than pay a garage for a diagnostic. An example of one that also gives some engine live data https://www.gendan.co.uk/product_FXNT200.html The fault could be any of the engine sensors and if you tried to guess which one is faulty you could waste a lot of money before finding the right one. When the light is on the engine may be running in limp mode which will limit the performance to prevent excessive exhaust emissions. You can still use the car but it could reduce the life of the exhaust catalyst. Quote
