Car recently went in for a service and to look at the glove box thats jammed shut, accoding to the garage "i have broken the glove Box" and warrenty doesn't cover that so they're wanting £72 for an entire glove box when it's just the catch thats bust!!! :Danyone know if you can just buy the catch or have i really got to pay 70 odd quid for anew box? Cheers. Rich_Eason Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Is there anyway you can uncatch the lid off the bottom? IIRC it is cliped in place at the bottom, you would need to push up from the bottom of the door/lid upwards. Pull lever open and push upwards? Have no idea if this would work or end up breaking the door, I just remember the gf saying "oops" one day and it being in her hand. Just a simple case of clipping back in place. Quote
C4VTS Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 The warranty does not include the glovebox anymore. Too many people made claims for breaking them. Make sure you dont put anything in there that could get stuck, such as maps, cards etc. Quote

Mat Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Have a look on ebay for scrap yards selling off bits of written off cars. I got 4 new roofrack covers for a fiver. I hate to think what Citroen would have charged me Quote

Stuey Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 I bought my wheels of a breaker and i think it is still listed. Search for Citroen C4 and he has the interior light listed for £1.99 but it says in the description that all of the cars parts are for sale. Quote
lab44 Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 The gloveboxes are pretty shoddy on the C4 - got mine stuck the first day. Trick is if it gets stuck be very careful trying to get it back open or it just snaps off. Don't overfill it and should be okay. Rest of the car is fairly solid so dont know why the glovebox is so rubbish. Quote
wozza Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 Guessing i dont abuse mine so much but i chuck everything in there. A to Z's drinks etc. Use the aircon thing inside to keep my drinks cool. Quote
lab44 Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 no point putting drinks in mine - no aircon :( Quote
Guest Ben Posted April 28, 2007 Posted April 28, 2007 no point putting drinks in mine - no aircon :( Mine got stuck the other day - after Id read about the problem on here - managed to free it up and clip it back into the hinge. Then today it got stuck again - I was gentle with it becuase I knew the problem - but the blooming handle has snapped!! Might try and super glue it back together. I think this must have become weak with it often getting stuck and today it just snapped off ... I read a comment about them "no longer being covered by the warranty" implying they once were and that citroen took it off becuase too many were breaking - surley this is even more of a sign that there is a gross mechanical problem with the whole design. I could probably prove that the design was wholey in-appropriate by doing a full FEM load and stress anaylsis - wonder what Citoren would say if I asked for the mechanical drawings to help me to do this - or for evidence of their design criteria to show that they have alreayd done this and that it is satisfactory - I doubt they have and they must know it isnt suitable due to the shear number that have broken. Or I could just pay the 80 quid :( Quote

Guest Ben Posted May 19, 2007 Posted May 19, 2007 The LAST resort would be to pay the £80 - you can find one at a breakers yard with a little searching!OK - kept quiet until it had been resolved - but I phoned up and told them that the catch had snapped. I told them exactly what had happened - and they said they would have to phone for approval as it was a warranty claim on trim items. I explained that I had certainly not over filled the glove box and that the catch had caught on the trim inside the glove box. Few days later and they had one on order - great! All sorted and fixed. Also had the spanner service indicator warning lamp bug fixed - simple software update to one of the chips. Quote

Blanchie That sounds pricey. On the subject of parts I've got to replace a passenger door handle and wing mirror that got badly scratched this week on my VTR+ coupe. Is it worth calling around when pricing up parts or do all Citroen dealers charge the same price? c4owner Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 That sounds pricey. On the subject of parts I've got to replace a passenger door handle and wing mirror that got badly scratched this week on my VTR+ coupe. ;) Is it worth calling around when pricing up parts or do all Citroen dealers charge the same price?Theres a standard parts price but over at c4owners.co.uk we have a deal with a Citroen Dealer to give discounts to Premier Members However the savings on 'Parts' are not as great as 'Accessories' due to Citroen's wacky pricing structure. Like everything else the more you buy the bigger the discounts that are available as a dealer and sometimes dealers can buy parts from other dealers in Europe cheaper than they can get them from Citroen - mad or what B) Saying that I got a good deal on a set of Disks and Pads which I'm going to fit shortly BTW when I jammed my glovebox I forced it and broke it and had to pay £74 for the privildge of having it replaced as they declined it under warranty Quote
Goon Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Having mine replaced under warranty next week. Unofficial Citroen policy is that the first breakage is covered by warranty but from then on, it is the owner's responsibility. Just be pushy. Have been advised by Citroen garage that if it breaks again, prise it free with a credit card above the latch. Quote
kfk Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 In most cases the glovebox doesnt need to be broken to get it open......but by the time the dealer sees it thats the state it's in........customers nowadays have an attitude of 'its not my problem, i'm not paying for it, warranty will'. Most common reason for the glovebox jamming is the service book wedged under the latch......so put your service book in the place provided for it under the passenger seat. Glove boxes on C4s are covered by warranty for manufacturing defects.....so if you take your C4 to the dealer with a jammed glovebox thats still in one piece you're more likely to get a replacement than if you pulled like hell till something broke. If we type Broken against any warranty claim we need to explain how it got broken, they dont break on there own.....and yes we have to type an accurate description of the fault....they ask for the parts back and audit us! Z3M Roadster Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 I guess I was careful and never overfilled it as I had no problems in 63,000miles. Used to keep the manual and service book under the passenger seat. Quote
wozza Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 Keep manuals etc in the folder under the passenger seat. But the glove box gets quite a lot of junk in it still. Manchester A to Z, Drinks, CD's etc. Never had a problem. Quote
Cork-C4 Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Hi Guys, Just thought Id throw this one in.I broke my glove box 7 months ago and Citroen dealer told me when I brought it in that it was'nt covered under warranty? gave me a stupid price of 120euro for replacement. now last week I collected my car after 30,000km service and the whole box was replaced, asked the dealers about it and they said that new glove boxes have been issued for this years model and that customers with warranty still in place can have the new replacement ones fitted. Glove box is nearly the same as the old one but the handles are much thicker plastic, so if you have a busted one get on to your dealer and check this out with them. I would assume that ye in the UK would have this in place now cos we always seem to follow you like a year later or something. Regards Tony Quote
BigJohnD Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 I've had trouble with my glove box door, as the box itself is pretty small and an odd shape. The kids filled it with CDs and cables for iPods and phones, and then tried to force the door shut. I was lucky - the hinges at the bottom came away without any damage. After emptying the box, I was able to put it all back. Quote
ericc4 Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Has no-one threatened Citroen (in fact it has to be the vendor) with a Small Claims Court action? There is enough evidence on this site that there is a design fault and that the glove box arrangement is "not fit for purpose" as defined in the Sale of Goods Act.I'm certain that a) any such action would succeed and  that Citroen would not contest the matter. I'm even more sure that such action would deal with the bits of dipstick end floating in the sump that many owners of the 1.6HDi engine have! Quote
