Stuart js Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 Is this something that can be done yourself or is it a dealer task? Dealer only I believe........ I bought another key fob from Ebay and went about getting it reprogrammed and a new Key.......... Dealer says that they are the only ones that can reprogram fobs, IF, I have the security card that was supplied with the car, which I do not, if not they have to request it from Citroen UK, at another cost, then to get a new key cut it would be more, If I remember about £100 in all!!! needless to say I still have only one key fob. hope it helps Stu Quote
Randombloke Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 You do not necessarily need to get a complete key with the remote fob. You can get a garage key much cheaper. I have simply got a garage key as the spare. It is worth getting the confidential code form Citroen as you will need it if ever you lose the key, then is not the time to try and order it. Quote
shallishanti? Posted March 29, 2007 Author Posted March 29, 2007 Thanks for the feedback. Got one flip key in working order. Also have the non-flip (garage?) key which looks like it has a chip in it so must work the ignition. I had read somewhere that if the battery fails in the flip key then you cannot open the deadlocked doors with the garage key. Urban myth? Quote

Urban myth indeed ... The garage key works nicely .. just unlock the deadlocks (try it - leave the plip key in the house, and open the car with the spare :( ) P Quote
proinnsias Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 Actually - as an aside ... if I need to change the locks on the car (long story ..) do I need to get the new keys programmed at a citroen dealership, or is it a case of just change all the locks / barrels and all will be well ? Somehow I'm doubtful that PSA would turn down the opportunity to guarantee a few bob for themselves by making it easy ! Quote

If you are changing just the door locks, no you wont need it to be reprogrammed If your changing the ignition lock barrel then yes you will need it programmed: - a new key will have a different transponder chip in it and the vehicle will not recognise it till programmed Quote

Since I got the entire locks kit - I might as well go the whole way - and change everything, so one set of keys does the entire job ... presume it's a dealer-only thing and not something involving a mason's handshake with the new keys in the barrel ? Lightshaft Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Thanks for the feedback. Why didn't I think of that? Works nicely. What was it you did not think of? Quote
