Tonc Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 I had a Catalectic Converter fault, displayed on the pannel which caused my C5 to run like it was running on 1 - 2 cylinders. I stopped switched off and restarted, revved the engine and continued with my journey. Everything appeared normal again until the ‘Anti Pollution Fault’ appeared. I have been told that the cure is to remove/bypass the Catalectic Converter and fit a electronic control box from the sensor, to fool the computer! Can anyone advise if this will disappear by itself? Quote
kfk Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 If you have had an engine management light come on it can do so for many reasons, and not necesarilly for the reason mentioned in its message. A lot of the computers share sensors and other information, so for instance, it isnt unusual for a message to come up that says 'ABR/ESP fault' at which point the engine may go into limphome mode, the point is it may be nothing to do with the ESP causing the problem but because the engine ecu has picked up a fault it has an affect on the operation of the ESP and operates in a downgraded mode. So........get it booked in somewhere to read the engine management faults, i would recommend a main dealer for this as small independent garages are unlikely to have equipment that will read ALL the computers, and thus may miss the true reason for the fault. Removing the catalytic convertor is unlikely to make the problem go away. In fact it is probably the least likely component to cause problems. Quote

This has caused a lambda sensor failure on a friend's 206. Quote
Tonc Posted April 15, 2007 Author Posted April 15, 2007 Have you checked that you did not fill up with the affected Tesco/Morrisons problem fuel? This has caused a lambda sensor failure on a friend's 206. Thanks for your suggestion. I live in Cape Town South Africa and the thought did cross my mind but I think my local petrol station is reliable as I have been using them for the past few years. I have decided to have the computer checked for errors before I take the drastic steps of having the C.C. removed. Did your friends 206 come right by itself or did he have to have something replaced? Randombloke Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 Did your friends 206 come right by itself or did he have to have something replaced? No. It had to have the lambda sensor replaced. This cured the stuttering fault. She had a number of receipts for the defective fuel sold in the UK by the two chains mentioned earlier, and was able to claim from them as they confirmed the time and date of purchase of the fuel meant it was from the defective batch. They said it was probably brough about by a flat battery. A bit puzzling beacuse I had had the battery replaced the day before the problem occurred! But happy to hear that I don't have to do anything more. Charge for checkout - No charge. Quote
