Tonc Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 My left rear door locks and cannot be opened. Have had this problem before an found tapping on the lock mechanism whilst locking & unlocking released the door. When the door was opened checked the locking action and couldn’t find a problem. Spray silicon spray on it and put it back & after a month the door has locked again and cannot be opened. Any suggestions on solving this! Quote

Any suggestions on solving this! Just fixed the same problem yesterday on mine, although i could 'hear' the lock's solenoid working, which it may not be in your case. Anyway, I took off the door trim, beginning at the bottom after unscrewing and removing the door opener 'cup', grab handle and speaker, and pulling out the electric window switch and disconnecting the wires. I then cut through the grey membrane to give access to the lock and sprayed WD40 into the lock as best I could; waited 10 mins. Then instead of using the door handle to open, I pulled on the connecting rod itself and this actually opened the lock! Prior to opening it I had fiddled around inside the lock (it's a tight squeeze but try) and managed to get movement of some part of it -- child lock perhaps? deadlock? I've no idea -- so that may have helped. But I believe the problem had been both door handles not producing the 100% 'pull' needed to snick the sticking lock, which is why pulling on the rod itself directly worked. HTH and good luck! Quote

Thanks for your help but have done the same but with Silicone Spray. Solenoid does work as well and removed the lock, once I got open. Checked it with power connected and simulated locking etc. and the lock worked every time! Was hoping there is a quick way to open without stripping the door again. Quote
paul.h Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 There have been notes on this before, seem to remember there is a pin that breaks or moves in the lock that causes the lock to not work. Worth trying a search for the exact details. Quote

Worth trying a search for the exact details. Hi, I have just bought myself a 2001 C5 HDI LX and the rear left door has stopped opening with the outside handle suddenly, I also have the child locks activated as we have 3 kids that we didnt want opening the door whilst driving !, Trouble is that i have managed to get the interior door panel off, cut through the grey membrane, and i can see the lock, but cannot figure out how to open it now, i have pushed and pulled on all the bits i can see, and nothing opens the door, Does anyone know how i might be able to open the door so that i can remove the lock to fix it ?, I have done a search and this is the only post that turned up anything on stuck doors Thanks Quote
myglaren Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 There are a lot of "Stuck Door" threads, you must just have been unlucky in your search. My driver's door stuck intermittently for a while and I discovered that a little shove from outside or a push from inside would release it. I think probably I just hadn't exerted enough force closing it.Dosed the catches with silicon lubricant and the problem sems to have gone away. While it may not work for you, as there are other problems with locks and catches, it is the cheapest and simplest thing to try first. Quote
