Rob Bentall Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 I am looking to buy a '96 "M" Xantia 1.9TD estate with the basic A/C (at least I assume it is with a button on the dash with a snowflake symbol on) and the car is great in every way except.... the blower fan only seems to work in certain settings ie its either on or not, no graduation also its extreemly noisy, sounds like a Cessna at take off. There is also no air coming out of any vents at all. Can anyone tell me what could be the prob and worse case scenario especially as it does have the basic A/C system! Cheers Rob Quote
Kr1s Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 Could be the fan thats noisy, might have some debris in or noisy bearings and might need a rear stat to sort the blower settings or a cable .... needs looking at basically, parts should be cheap from a scrap yard, theres plenty of dead xantias about ! DickieG Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 When you state "Basic air con" what version are we talking about? There were two types of air con fitted to Xantia's at the factory, the most common had an "Auto" setting on the fan slider control (adjusts the fan speed according to temperature variation etc) and the basic version which was simply a manual fan speed control. Are you not getting any air out of the vents even when the fan is running at full speed? If so then that will more than likely be due to a blocked pollen filter. The fault of the fan only working on full speed will be down to faulty transistors on the fan motor speed control module, which if you're handy with a soldering iron can be bought cheaply in places such as Maplins, alternatively you can buy the module as a seperate item from dealers or the complete fan assembly for around £130ish. wizz_ozz Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 I have similer problem - The Fan is not working. But the A/C is working. Anyone?I found the problem to be worn/dirty blower motor brushes, I removed the motor, dismanteled it and cleaned them up, a bit fiddly, but its the easiest blower ive ever removed!! and it sorted the problem, and that was 6 months ago, altho i will be on the look out for a s/hand replacement as a spare Quote
Guest sparkee Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 hi rob, my guess is that the reason you got no air from vents would be due to knackered pollen filter which is located under dashboard on passenger side, take it out or replace it. i had same problem and the difference is instanthth Quote

If so then that will more than likely be due to a blocked pollen filter. This is a problem I have. I have just replaced the resistor which had failed & now even with blower on full speed, nothing from any vents! I tried removing the pollen filter (without putting in a replacement) & still nothing, which makes me wonder is it worth replacing the filter for the same result???I'd really apreciate any helpful answers as this is the only thing getting me down about the car & at this time of year could be a saftey issue, Thanks. Just wanted to update for potential help of other users, I removed the pollen filter now & took the blower out, switched round the electrical connections & now all seems fine. The blower was in effect rotating the wrong way! Doh! Quote

The blower was in effect rotating the wrong way! Doh!I had experienced the same problem months ago. The problem was not the blower motor but the brown connector with supply wiring was faulty. A closer look at the connector showed signs of overheating. Issue was addressed after replacing the connector and re-crimping the supply wires of the blower motor. Quote
willie Posted November 2, 2008 Posted November 2, 2008 I AM AT MY WITS END WITH THE FAN!!!!!! NEVER HAVE I OWNED SUCH A FINICKY CAR!!!!! Quote

Try it and see Steve Quote
