Just seen this the AutoTrader website

2007 Citroen C6 2720 cc 2.7 HDi V6 Lignage 4dr Auto

Price:£ 25,750

Price on the Citroen website...

C6 2.7HDi V6 208hp Lignage Auto £34,995

A car that is 6 months old with 4,500 miles on the clock has depreciatied by £9,245 (£1,540 per month or £2 per mile). What Car says the part ex is £20,665 a drop of £14.330 (41%)

Scary stuff, but a bargain used car.

I think the key with depreciation is not to look at what the list price vs. the used price is, but what you LOSE over the period of ownership. The list price of the top end C6 is currently around £36,000, but you'll PAY £31,000 for it. Pre-reg cars... £24,000ish depending on how you slice it (mine was £28K but with the incentives used to make up the deposit on finance so effectively got a very low deposit and low monthly payment scheme on Elect 3 - I wanted to wait and buy for cash, but the dealer was very helpful getting me one ahead of schedule!).

Now, sure. That's a big drop. But no-one paid that. If you pay £24,000 for a pre-reg (15 miles in my case) C6, use it for a year, and sell it, it'll still be pushing £20,000 used value (IF you can find a buyer, of course) with 20K on the clock. My RX8 lost £9,000 in value over the same sort of period (but I paid less. Contract Hire ftw).

Citroën are getting it wrong with the C6 in the UK, again. 106 pre-reg and used cars, nearly all dealer demos, on their site. The original idea was "cars built to order only", in which case I think the depreciation would be better even derived from list.

FWIW, I rather like driving a car which is rarer than a Bentley GT ;)

I was just going to ask, does this car match up with the A8 in price? Woof. Why don’t they just put the DS back in production? At least in style, Citroen can’t meet their own benchmark.

Depreciation is not only a Citroen phenomenon. My Step father bought a fully loaded Audi A4 1.8turbo quattro brand new on a V plate. Unbelieveably it set him back over £31,000! A year later he approached the same dealer to trade it back on an Audi TIT. He was absolutely gobsmacked to be offered £16,000! Needless to say he kept the A4. It seems that the higher spec a car is, the more it will lose in value in the first few years. The optional bells and whistles don't seem to matter when the trade in time comes.

Cheers. :D

^^ very true I had a Lexus ls 400 top of the range £56k new I got it for 1k although it was ten years old with 50k miles on the clock and full Lexus service history ( company exec cars ) same as the C6 no doubt so will be a second hand bargain in the future

I bought a pristine Iron Grey Sept 2007 C6 lignage 2.7 V6 HDi auto with 1 years full Citroen warranty and 9,380 miles on the clock for £14,400

Because of the security features (won 2009 Executive Car class in the British Insurance Industry awards) Insurance is cheaper than a C4 for me!!!!!!!

They are real bargains now.
