hertsnminds Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 After just over 28,000 miles I have replaced my original tyres with some Goodyear NCT 5 XL's. The garage that fitted them have told me the pressures should be 32psi (2.2bar) on all 4 wheels. I find this a bit strange as the Citroen sticker recommends different pressures front and rear. Anyone have any thoughts as to what the pressures should be or who the best people to ask would be Citroen or Goodyear? The car is a 5 door 1.6HDi (110), tyres are 205/50 17 W IanBlack 55 VTR+ Quote
smokescreen Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 Hi Ian, I would stick to the pressures recommended on the Citroen sticker if they are 'like for like' size wise. Regards Mark Quote
Johndouglas Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 The difference in pressures between front and back is because of the weight carried by the two axles. Usually the front is slightly heavier - unless the car is fully loaded with passengers and luggage. In which case the rear pressures would be increased. I've also recently changed from Michelin to Avon, but in my case the fitter asked me what pressure I would like! I followed the advice on the door sticker. Quote
hertsnminds Posted September 12, 2007 Author Posted September 12, 2007 Thanks for the replies The Goodyear website says go by the car manufacturers recommendation. Citroen Dealer agrees that make of tyre does not change the pressure values used as per the door sticker. In my case that is 2.4 bar front and 2.1 bar rear (2.7 bar rear when fully loaded). Blackcircles.com maybe the cheapest for new tyres, but they don't give the best service. IanBlack 55 VTR+ Quote
Johndouglas Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 I got my last two purchases from:-HTTP://WWW.TYRETRADERS.COM/ You buy online but get them fitted locally with a fully fitted price quote. Quote
BigJohnD Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 I bought two Michelin Exaltos from Black Circles, and used a local fitting service which was excellent. They checked their Michelin guide and made sure the (front) tyres were 2.4bar. Quote

C4VTS Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Blackcircles.com maybe the cheapest for new tyres, but they don't give the best service. It's not Blackcircle that give service, but your local fitter!! Last week had Pirelli P7's fitted to front by local Blackcircle fitter, and after got home, checked pressures and they were all spot on as per sticker on the car. I also made sure they did centreless balancing before booking my appointment. Had the 4 wheel laser tracking done also, which was slightly out. Quote
BigJohnD Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 http://bigjohnd.250free.com/CitC4/tyresize.jpgRecommend pressures for 205/50 R17s on a VTR+ Hatch. It's not Blackcircle that give service, but your local fitter!!Exactly. I've just bought four Firestone's for SWMBO Focus (you only put decent tyres on decent cars) from BlackCircles, and the mobile fitter was excellent. He did the lot on the drive in less than hour, and took the old tyres away. I checked the wheel bolt torque settings and pressures a week later and they were all spot on. Quote
hertsnminds Posted October 9, 2007 Author Posted October 9, 2007 It's not Blackcircle that give service, but your local fitter!! That may be the case but my contract is with Blackcircles, they are who I pay my money to and it is their T's & C's that I sign up to. Many copmanies sub-contract work if I send a parcel using DHL it may be finally delivered by Royal Mail but My contract is with DHL and if I have any problems they are who I go back to. Blackcircles should be vetting all of their sub-contractors and removing those who do not meet the companies standards. Just as an aside do the front tyre pressures vary with engines (I know the diesels are heavier at the front) or is is just the number of doors? IanBlack 55 VTR+ Quote
BigJohnD Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 Blackcircles should be vetting all of their sub-contractors and removing those who do not meet the companies standards. There's a section on the website where you can give feedback on your fitter. Quote
