alp Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 my C3 03 module has decided to stop cooling the engine. Coolant fan not working and I've been told sensors and fan / raditator come as one unit and would all need replaced if one part is broken. Seems a bit severe to me. any options or things to try by my 'self'. Other option is not to be in stationary traffic as temperature guage and warning beep on full alert. cools quick when i move heat to interior or start driving again. Quote
iannez Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 check the temp switch first. remove the plug and bridge the 2 pins with a piece of wire while the engine is running. if the fan fires up its a faulty switch. all the parts a bought separately so someone is telling you porkies. Quote

Can you let me know where i wld find the temp switch so that i can see if this is the problem with mine?thanks. Quote
paul.h Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 The 1.4 petrol has 2 temperature sensors at the left hand (gearbox) end of the engine cylinder head. The one on the top gives the temp indication and the one on the side is a high temp switch. If I have read the wiring diagram correctly, on high temp both have the effect of putting the gauge to maximum and starting the engine fan. Quote

Hi alps did this help with your Car, mine has just started doing the same and wanted to understand whether this helped. Thanks Richie Quote
Richiekona Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Tried to bypass the top switch yesterday (green coloured) and the dash gauges showed over heating but the fan did not start. Also tried a black switch on the side but the engine would not start when this was bypassed. Should the fan have started when bypassing the green switch on top?. :D Any more ideas Thanks Richie Quote
paul.h Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 To access the one on the side, I had to remove the air filter housing since it is a bit low down, can not remember its colour. The wiring diagram shows this one to have a single wire to it so if the connection is removed it will be a case of earthing the connector to put it on full temperature and starting the fan. Both sensors go through the same wire to the engine management system to start the fan so I would have thought by-passing the top sensor should have started the fan. Quote
Richiekona Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 So the fan should have started when I bypassed the top sensor. Could it be the fan motor has gone? Quote
