Hi, I have only had the Berlingo (its a 2001 Multispace 1.6 petrol) for 3 months. Excellent car! :P When I first got it the airbag light was flashing and some segments of the clock and odometer flash in time with it and the clocks dot. The airbag light cleared when I set the clock to the correct time, but the display segments continue to flash, odd! The service spanner has now come on at 6000 miles to go  !! Any one got any ideas ?? Also see my answer to "Stereo Doesn't Switch Its Self Off!,, when i take the keys out!!!! in the ICE section.

Hi. I have the same model; had it from new.

At 3 1/2 years old the mileometer went mad and ended up at 600000miles!

Needed new instrument cluster at about £300, but - - -

The problem was that the vehicle mileage is held in both the instrument cluster and in the BSI (body systems interface). If the two don't agree, the lesser reading is set to the greater, so that in my case the BSI set itself to 600000, which seems to be the maximum reading, which means that it's stuck at that figure.

So I had to get the mileometer "recalibrated" and that was another can of worms!

Maybe your mileage reading will be OK.

The connector to the LCD display is a bit fragile but that only affects the display itself.

Hope that helps.

You can reset the service indicator easily - see the handbook.

Hi,

I have a 2001 Xsara Picasso which has exhibited the same 600,000 problem. From 87,000 miles it suddenly showed 600,000 miles.

The dealer has quoted me £3,000 (yes, Thousand!) inc VAT to pit it right mentioning that it needed several parts as you said rather than just the dashboard.

Which parts did you actually have to renew?

due to less weight with the newer cars they reduced the wire thickness and this is the sort of problem you get ( I wont go into too much detail because it takes too long ) basically the connectors on the rear of the dash are subject to excess power and lose a connection here and there due to heat build up and if cleaned with an electrical cleaner used on computer boards it tends to restore them

As a previous post has reported the mileage for the vehicle is contained within two components....the speedometer display and the BSI, which is the vehicles main computer.

Using diagnostic equipment i'm certain the recorded mileage can be viewed within the BSI, unfortunately this cannot be viewed using the same equipment in the speedometer.

So......to decide whats needed the mileage within the BSI needs to be known.....worst case scenario it needs both components.......However i cant see why they have quoted this amount though....of the top of my head i totalled £1000........looking it up i came up with between £990 and £1500 dependent of the spec of the vehicle.....and that includes parts labour and vat.
