alggomas Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 I have a C3 1.6 auto 52reg.[air con] The fan will not switch off! If I press demister or internal ventilation the fan will increase [normal]. However if I leave on automatic at say 19deg. the fan will keep at a certain rate. This happens even if I try to increase the rate manually using the plus sign. Any ideas please? Please ask if you want more information.Regards. Quote
paul.h Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 Is this since it is set in auto ? Anything in the handbook ? If you alter the temperature setting does the fan speed change to quickly adjust the cabin temperature ? Our air con is not climate control so all settings are done manually but air conditioning systems normally need the cabin fan to run before they will work so may be to do with this. Quote

Nothing in handbook. can answer some of your ?'s.Before if I pressed the MINUS button on the fan till the shaded part dissapeared the fan would stop. Now it keeps going at the same rate. This occures even if I press the PLUS sign to the maximum no change in output. If i press the air recycling button the fan increases speed. However I think this is another fan that cuts in.[Though I really am not sure as it is my guess!]. In auto it speeds up slightly before going back to the same rate. Thanks for your response. Quote
stimulator Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Tried this on my 54 reg SX with auto a/c yesterday. When the a/c is ON the fan shows the number of blades it requires, the minimum is a 1/2 blade a sthe fan MUST be on if the a/c is on otherwise the evaporator will freeze up. There is no OFF button as such but if you press the A/C button and then the AUTO button the screen goes blank and the fan stops. pressing the recirc button puts that symbol on. Press AUTO lights up the display again. Will have another 'play' and see what else I can find. NOTE there is only ONE fan in the heating blower system, the increase in noise in RECIRC is due to the flap opening insdie the car by your feet to draw the air in so you hear the fan at that time Quote

Sorry for delay. Did what you said pressed the a/c button then Auto, but fan stayed on!. I am assuming that the A/c button is one with the frosted symbol? The fan seems to be on at the same speed all the time, even when the fan blades increase. The only time the fan gets even louder is when I stitch to RECYCLING..When I press the "- " button on the fan the screen goes blank but is still lit, and the fan is still on. I am considering removing the fan fuse for a couple of minutes. Perhaps this will clear the memory? The only thing I did recently, and it should not have affected anything : It was cold one morning [5am], I turned everything on, i.e. demister front and back windows Recycling as well.Any suggestions please? stimulator Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 Instead of taking the fan fuse out disconnect the battery and wait 5 minutes then connect it again. This will cause the ECU to reboot and taht may get rid of the problem. Quote

I have tried all combinations. No good. fan comes on when I start up.Everything works heating/coolness.Apart from the fan being on and the speed. I have had another reply which states that this is an electronic fan control part failure and is found in the heater box on the drivers' side and will cost about £45.00. I just have to find REASONABLE labour costs now! Thanks again. Quote

twigmen Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Hi, I have exactly this problem on an 04 Model, did changing the suggested component fix the problem.I have had a look down by my left hand leg and find a buncj of components down there, I found a device with an aluminium heat sink attachedv that projects into the fan airflow for cooling - is this it , It has two green electrical connection blocks. It is clearly not related to the control panel as with this removed from the car the fan still runs at full speed. rgds Adrian Covill Quote

I have also tried the usual remove fuse and disconnect battery to see if that would reset any components but no luck. If any of previous posters got to the bottom of the problem I would appreciate hearing etc Many thanksJohn Quote
Guest chuttonx Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Was just going to add that i have posted a similar post, your problem i had, but i was on the motorway for an extended journey, with the result the fan had burned out, due to the fact it had been on full for some time. Just one to watch. Hopefully i'll get my own issue sorted as well... Quote
