Phaeton Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 Just bought a 51 plate C5 last Sunday & have a few issues with it, nothing major just like to get them sorted. Cigarette lighter doesn't work, don't want it for cigs but sat nav etc. the 12V socket behind handbrake works fine, do they share a fuse or different, if different where is the fuse please. Outside temperature sender the one in the N/S mirror appears to be sending duff information, it's not been 91 degrees going to work at 6:30 in morning. If it's not important I'll not worry about it. Offside rear door doesn't unlock when central locking opened from fob, using button on dash opens it & if you manually open door from inside it then opens. Lastly it has a 110bhp sticker inside of door, & the tax paid was £115 by the last owner. I've just had a discussion with my father who has a 90bhp Picasso & he reckons that it's 90 not a 110. He only pays £115 for his & reckons that a 110 is £145, I've checked the V5C & there's nothing on there that's conclusive. Alan... Quote
iannez Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 the cig lighter and aux socket do not share a fuse. the temp sensors are not bad to change and only cost a few quid but it will cause no probs if you leave it . check the vin number for bhp. if it has rhy in it its 90bhp and if has rhz it is 110bhp. Phaeton Posted November 4, 2007 Author Posted November 4, 2007 the cig lighter and aux socket do not share a fuse. Thanks for the response, looked in handbook & it doesn't mention a fuse for the lighter, does anyone know where it is? the temp sensors are not bad to change and only cost a few quid but it will cause no probs if you leave it .In that case I will leave it, I see no use for it other than to warn me of ice on road. check the vin number for bhp. if it has rhy in it its 90bhp and if has rhz it is 110bhp.Just looked at V5C & it says Variant DCRHZ* & Version D*RHZ* with a VIN number of VF7DCRHZB followed by 8 numbers so definately looks like a 110 so is £115 for the year correct? Anyone any thoughts on the offside rear door, really not important as the amount of times anyone will be going in the back is rare, it's just a pain if I want to put my coat etc, in there. Alan... shallishanti? Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 The label on the door pillar is fitted at the factory. I'd tend to believe it. Sounds like your tax is the right amount. Quote

Re the rear door. Try opening the tailgate, then press the plipper to lock all the doors. The system should "kick back" and unlock all the doors as a safety measure. If this fails I'm afraid it's a trim off job to replace the locking motor (or a trip to a Citroen specialist if you're like me!) Quote

Sorted the front cigarette lighter, it was just dirty, BUT still can't use it for sat nav as the unit isn't long enough to go down into it & make contact. silly design Alan... Quote

How come my C5 2.0 HDI vin is RHZ"E" and I had to pay £165, it's an Auto does that make a difference? Robbie Quote
paul.h Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 The auto fuel economy must be bad enough to put it in a higher tax band. The V5 document should give the CO2 emissions which then relate to the tax band. Quote

Robbie Yes, I'm afraid it's the auto which increases the CO2 emissions (not the fuel economy) and has a bad effect on the amount of road tax you pay. My wife's small Rover 216 auto attracts road tax of £190! :P Quote

As to economy I'm well impressed, bought the car on the 28th October & at the end of the road the light came on. Called in at Tesco's & put £50 of diesel in, took the needle to just over 3/4 full. Did 380 miles in first week & went back yo same Tesco & could only get £48 in the tank it was full to the brim. Been back tonight after 420 miles & only managed to get £36.50 to fill it right up to the top again, works out around 52 to the gallon. Coming from a Toyota Surf that only did 23 to the gallon this is a big difference. Alan... Quote
