Johndouglas Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 Remove the nearside wheel and the wing liner. There's an oval shaped end plate on the box. The filler/level plug is the hex head that's at about four o'clock. Make sure the car is level to get an accurate level. Quote
richbaker Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 did you get it? _____________________________i love Autopartswarehouse because Autopartswarehouse is for real Quote

Guest Colin Hunter Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Hi Willie! Just checking to see if you got your gearbox oil level checked OK. It's not a difficult job, just a bit awkward. If my memory serves me correctly you don't have to take out the wing liner, there should be an access hole in it that you'll see the level plug through. This also acts as the filling plug and oil should be added until it starts to run back out the hole. That's it! Cheers. Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you. :( Quote

Guest Colin Hunter Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 Sorry Mate! I can't really remember, The Xantia's long gone. All I know is I didn't ever take out the wing liner to do mine. If you look on the end of the gearbox you should see a pressed steel cover which I beleive houses the 5th gear cluster. About 1/2 way up and to the front side of the cover is the level plug. The drain plug is on the passy side of the differential casing at the bottom and is the same kind of plug. Put the car up on ramps at the front and jack her up on the suspension for better access. To be honest, I used to check the level like that too. Because the plug is at the front side you end up with a little more oil in than you should, but it doesn't appear to matter too much. The Oil is 75W/80 EP if my memory serves me. Cheers. Happy levelling! ;) Quote

techbod Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 drain plug is below the drive shaft passenger side on the tranny lowest point fill plug is on the end of the tranny facing the passenger wheel, car fully jacked up should give you enough space to get in to undo the bolt inner wheel plastic cover doesn't need to be fully removed because the place where the bolt is located is at the bottom of the plastic inner cover so only needs pulling back ( that should save you some time ) I have the pug Citroen tool for that and just enough room to slot it in to remove the plug, the C5 is the same for draining the tranny up to 2004 so not a xantia thing regardless of its age :D Quote
