Our C8 lost the backlight to the multifunction display (where the date and tempereature and economy etc is displayed), and to the climate control screen (fan, auto, dual temperature etc). At the dealer for a service, they replaced the backlight for the first (multifunction display) and forgot to do the bulb in the climate control screen.

Does anyone know how to replace this?

Thanks,

This is a reliatvley easy job when you know how. There should be a silver strip above the heater panel which seperates it from the main dash area. You need to pull this off, if you just get your finger behind it from the right behing the gear stick and gently pull it just unclips. If I remember correctly there is a couple of torx screws that need undoing. I think there may also be another screw under the gear gaitor which also removes easily just by pulling it up. You should then be able to get to the bulb holders.

Just came across this while trying to find a solution to another problem - we've had the same problem for months and having been told it was a major job requiring the whole panel being replaced by the dealer, we just learned to live with it!!

Great advice - thank you! Just to add however - we did see the 3 torx screws referred to, but they're not actually connected to the panel - on ours, the panel just clipped off without the need for any tools. Not having the correct bulb, we have just swopped the two around (they're the two little white rectangular things, just turn them like a bayonet bulb and they pop out) so now the display lights up but the buttons (which have their own LEDs anyway) don't until such time as I get around to buying the bulb.

Thanks again for the great advice!

I did the trick with the silver trim (3 clips, one at the glove-box side and two at the steering wheel side) and the panel with the gear lever gaiter and climate control panel lifts from the ash tray end. Disconnect the black, white and red plugs and you can unclip the gaiter and lift the panel over the gear lever. You can then see both bulb holders and twist them out. No tools required on my 2004 2.2 HDi SX.

Now - if you're used to Citroens of years ago, beware! The bulb holders don't seem to take separate grain-of-rice bulbs any more. The wires of the bulbs are heat-stamped onto the contacts of the black holders so you can't just change the bulbs, the bulb is a unit with the holder. Removing the bulb will break the wire and render the bulb useless (as I found out). Either you have to buy bulb and holder or do what I did and raid the spares box so I could replace the holders with those from a long-dead CX.

Hi, I have replaced the bulbs in the climate control window easy enough but now a bulb has gone on the display with the date and mpg.... How do I get that display out? Edited by rfhspares

The C8 may be similar to a C5 which is as follows:

On a C5 the multi function display with the date, etc. is removed by first removing the plastic surround - prise up its lower edge with a blunt flat bladed tool and then pull it towards you, remove 2 torx screws to release the display and the bulbs can be removed from the back of the display. The C5 has 3 bulbs but the Haynes manual does not give the bulb type.
