dtbsz Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Greetings all. My father is leaving the country and he's leaving me his citroen c3 xtr. It has 65 kW. My question is about the little light that warns you when you reach low fuel level. When does it start? When there is fuel left for how many km-s? Thank you in advance! Quote
paul.h Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Welcome to the forum.I think it mentions this in the car handbook. On our C3 (2003 1.4sx petrol), the warning light appears when the fuel level goes to the last segment on the gauge. It is about a 45 litre fuel tank (can not remember actual) so if all the gauge segments are equal, the last segment will be about 7 litres when it is first reached. The car gives 40 to 45 mpg (10 m/litre) so I would allow about 20 miles before I panicked enough to refill the tank. However, if you do not know how many miles ago the warning light came on, then best to refill. Quote

From what I understand based on what you said the light goes on there are still 7 liters in the tank. How much does it eat? 4-5 liters / 100 km? If so how come 7 liters are only enough for 20 miles = 32.18688 kilometers? Thanx again for the quick help! PS: Could I download the car's handbook from somewhere? Quote
stimulator Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 On my 1.4 HDi SX the light comes on at 65miles to go to empty. Currently the car is doing 64 mpg so on that basis its when there is 4.5 litres in the tank On our 1.6 HDi Sx the light comes on at 55 miles to goto empty. Currently the car is doing 56 mpg so on that basis it's when there is 4.5 litres in the tank. Quote

It eats 4.5 l / 100 km Thanx for the help!! :D Quote
stimulator Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Yes but don't forget that in town it will do less KM than it will at a constant 90KPH on motorway Quote

paul.h Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 dtbsz, you have not yet noted which engine your car has - petrol or diesel. Either way, you do not want to run out of fuel which could possibly cause fuel pump damage, never mind the inconvenience. That's why I gave a figure of around 20 miles from the light coming on to start worrying about filling up - the car may give over 50 miles before running out. Just to check mpg to km/litre conversion calcs - our 1.4 petrol gives about 45 mpg = 16 km/litre = 6.25 litres/100 km.You mention 4.5 litres/100 km = 62.5 mpg - to get this you must have a 1.4 hdi diesel engine - based on stimulator's note. raveydavey Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 I seem to remember it says the first warning light / beep (with the final segment fo the fuel display still lit) is with around 9 litres remaining (approx 2 gallons) in my handbook? I do know that the car has a 9.9 gallon tank and when I have let it run down to the second warning beep (no lights on the fuel display, just the warning light) I have managed to put just over that into the tank (don't forget you'll get a few litres in the filler pipe). I have now pledged not to let the fuel run so low in future! Quote
