Hi all,

I have got an Y-Reg C5 3.0L V6 Exclusive SE that has only done 28,000 miles but has now come up with the dreaded "anti-pollution fault" warning light  The engine was misfiring yesterday and from what I have read, it seems it could be one or more of the ignition coils.

Would I need to change the coils in batches ie: in groups of two, replace them one at a time or be best advised to change out the whole lot based on the age of them - some 7 years old now.

Any advice on the price of these coils or where I could get them (other than via a main dealer) would be greatly appreciated.

On another matter my wife and I have only recently moved to Aberdeen. Has any one had any experience of dealing with Arnold Clarke Citroen on Girdlesness Rd, Aberdeen? What are they like?

Can anyone recommend any other citreon specialists (other than main dealer) in Aberdeen or Aberdeenshire area?

Thanks for reading

Paul

Regarding arnold clark i googled this .....might be worth a read. As far as the coils are concerned, its recommended you replace all, of course it would be helpfull if you knew which had failed.....the 3 at the rear arnt a quick swop round when you get the wrong one and still find a missfire

[hi,

I have had a simular problems to your on my c5, 2.2.diesel auto, just had its 6th birthday with 72,000 miles on the clock.

Bought the car in September, a private sale in september, the car run lovely until the day before new years eve,

the computer came up with a fault, ANTI POLLUTION. ? The car went into service mode, luckily i was near home and drove into the citroen main dealers where it remained for 5 days to be told it needed a new map sensor <_<Some what confused as i have my own portable sat nav, i had it replaced. total cost of part £38.57, total cost of bill £194.58.

Off i went with a  on my face thinking the car was fixed, 400 miles and 5 weeks later, the same message appeared om my screen, ANTI POLLUTION, drove the car round to the main dealers again Bollingmores { who by the way have been helpful } put it on the computer again, to be told, found pre heat relay and tested, found swarf in fuel System possibly from hdi pump ?

fitted a pre heat box, £23.00, strainer fil £29.52 and carb cleaner £4.00 all to have VAT added final bill £300.00.

My question to all you Citroen fans, does it get better ? or are 6 year old C5 like moneyboxes ?

The car has been well maintained, and i will do likewise once i have reached the service interval.

It cost £42.00 plus Vat just to connect it to a computer.

Or does anybody know of any independents garages in the Ahford,Feltham,Sunbury, middlesex area ?

Is this what to expect from a C5 ?

MAP=Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor.

One branch of Bollingmores is very good and knowledgeable, I know this as I bought my last BX from them and have dealt with them over one or little guarantee issues with it, all very swiftly sorted.

All cars have stock faults. It pays to do the research about such faults before buying.

I don't like automatics, I have only to look at the figures for the C5 autos to see they guzzle fuel and have other problems from reading this forum. Likewise, older C5 2.2 s with the 50k DPF replacement.

It cost £42.00 plus Vat just to connect it to a computer.

That is what a lot of places charge for any marque. Older C5 diesels pre date EOBD so you can't use the £30 pod off eBay.

Bollingmores are pretty good. Don't know of any independents near there.

The reason Citroën cars second hand are so cheap is because there is a fear of hydraulic suspension, complicated systems, and cost of repairs. This has not changed since the DS came out in the late 1950s. Look back at DS, SM, CX, XM or even BX and GS. A big Citroën is like a dog, not just for Xmas, but for life. The story starts here.

Why not sell it and buy a top of the range Mondeo TCDi estate?

You are not far from teling the truth as far as mondeo's go. I also have a two year focus ghia with all the toys and leather, good as gold, the citroen i agree was cheap and took a chance, when she's going shes great. Where else could i get so much car for little money. £2500.00

I'm 43 years old, and yes i heard about all the rumours, but i thought i would take a chance and buy a car that was not made on a Monday or Friday afternoon, as is common with most cars........It would seem with a c5 no matter what day it is made is doomed to failure.

I have never ownwd a alfa romeo, maybe i could plough some of my hard earned money into that as well :P

Just look round for a grey c5 doing just over 30mph, cos when it is in service mode it will not go any faster, give me a wave as you pass in your mondeo.

I did over 250,000 miles in two s/h BXes. I've already done over 20,000 miles in a C5. The indy who fixed the BXes over the last 13 years advised on what to buy and avoid in C5s.

I had an Alfa Romeo 164 3.0 V6 for 3 weeks. What a car! Belonged to a friend whom I sold it for. 6 years old, fetched only £3k. As a driving experience, it was awesome. If I could have afforded it, I would have bought it, along with a tame lawyer to deal with the speeding hassles.

I wouldn't buy a Mondeo, as they fall short of what I need for long distance travel with a hang glider. I use the adjustable suspension all the time, and the self levelling when heavily loaded. A Mondeo simply grounds the sump when driving up rough tracks.

You can get a C5 in limp home mode up to about 60-ish mph. Mine has only done that once, when the swirl chamber control valve diaphragm failed. However, the part was replaced, all good as new and the valve has been recycled as another forum member is using the ball joint end of it in Eire.
