w1ggz Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 Alright guys - I'm new here and need some advice on insurance. I've recently just turned 17 and have started having driving lessons etc. and am hoping to pass within the next few months or so. Once I've passed I'm also planning to take my Pass Plus to help with insurance. What I'm looking to buy for my first car is a Citroen C2 1.1i (2004 or later) and I don't know how to go about the insurance. Today I went on gocompare.com and my lowest quote was 3,500 fully comprehensive which is way above what I expected it to be! I'm aware that it is going to be expensive as I'm a first time driver but I was hoping it would be somewhere near the 1600-2200 mark. If I can't find an insurer which will insure me for around this then I won't be getting a C2 for my first car :( If anyone has any advice, whether to go on one of my parents insurance or who to ring etc., it will be very much appreciated! Thanks for your help. Quote
w1ggz Posted April 6, 2008 Author Posted April 6, 2008 I've kind of answered my own question here for anyone else interested - DirectLine car insurance. I've just filled in my details on their website and as the named driver and my mum as the second named driver fully comp. is £1800 and third party, fire & theft is £1400 with £150 excess. This is for a C2 1.1l Design (2004 and onwards). For a C2 Furio 1.4l it's £1800 third party, fire & theft and £2000 fully comp. This is really good, and those figures don't even take into account Pass Plus which I know for a fact they accept which will knock money of the premium (up to 30%). Looks like I'm getting my C2 now!! Now to choose a model.. Thanks :( Quote
smokescreen Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 Hi There, My son is in the same boat - he has just passed his test and looked at Direct Line but found Churchillto be cheaper. Only minus point with both is they want the money up front, no monthly payments. Best of luck Smokescreen55 Reg C3 1.4 HDI sensodrive Quote
w1ggz Posted April 6, 2008 Author Posted April 6, 2008 Oh right, thanks for letting me know I'll check it out now. Do you know whether they take into account whether you have Pass Plus or anything? Quote
smokescreen Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 As far as I can remember, no they didn't but I'm sure when you log-in it'll all become clear. Smokescreen Quote
paul.h Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 When doing on-line insurance quotes you can make adjustments to reduce the cost. Try and estimate the annual mileage, if only 5000 miles as opposed to 10000 will reduce the cost. Have a higher excess. With Direct Line you may find as a young driver there will be an additional £400 excess on top of the £150 in your quote. If you have house insurance then Direct Line reduce the car insurance cost.If a parent will be the main driver of the car then have the insurance in their name with you as a named driver - you will still build up a no claims discount with Direct Line.Do not have any named drivers who have had a recent claim. With a young car you are best to go for comprehensive insurance but due to the high excess you pay on an own fault claim, and subsequent loss of no claims discount on insurance renewals, it is probably not worth claiming on anything that costs less than around £1000 to repair (unless there is damage to other people or their property). lulu_bella Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 hey i pasted my test a year ago and i got mine for just under a £1000 for my ZX and its 12yrs old i got it with direct line it will be a little more expensive for you as your a guys harsh hay!but mine has gone down by about £400 after a year and i dont have pass plus yet. The car that you are getting make sure it hasnt got any extras e.g turbo as that can put £500 and try to get under a 1.6 as then it will add on even more, i have insurance and i even work for a insurance company!!! j0hn52 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 For a new or young driver it has to be Bell. They give you a plug in telematic box to use for 3 months then you send it back to them. This monitors your driving and transmits it to Bell. If you drive well they give you a percentage refund..Alternatively there is Insure The Box who fit a telematic box behind the dashboard and its permanently monitored for as long as you are with them. They give you bonus miles for good driving.
