Guest Dervman Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 Was on Ebay and entered C5 USB and forgot MP3. I purchased the USB/IPOD convertor for the car. Astounded - my local Luffield wants £37+vat to program the thing into the stereo - a job I know will take less than 5 mins (4.5 mins to couple/decouple the cable...). Anyhow, the search brought up a USB to CAN connector which the seller claims works with Citroens. Has anyone used them, and is it of any use, or just diagnostics? Thanks, Quote
kfk Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 5 minutes to check the vehicle in at reception, 1 minute to clock on and get vehicle in the work shop, 3 minutes carrying out checks on the vehicle that arnt related to the repair in hand because we are legally obliged to do so, 2 minutes reporting the problems identified to the customer for them to tell us they want to drive round on illegal tyres etc......5 minutes programming the radio, another 10 minutes trying to get the part working that the customer has supplied, 4 minutes taking money off the customer listening to them moan at the price.........and then......half hour of a technicians time showing the customer how it works because it doesnt work how they expected! In a nut shell half hours labour sounds reasonable, nothing takes 5 minutes, it takes longer than that to do the paperwork. Quote
iannez Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 plus the £6000 pound diag tool the garage needs to be able do this job. a diag check is £50+ and theres less work involved so i think half an hours labour is very reasonable. if the can lead does work it will only access the injection ecu. a £30 hand held code reader would do the same job so dont waste your money. Ok my previous car; Volvo - the SIPS warning message came on as I disconnected the Climate Unit; which also is a central hub for the CAN system (removing b/tooth car kit). Called my local Volvo dealership - they reset it for me - 10 mins, no cost. Further, bear in mind they hadn't seen the car for 2 years/40,000 miles, as it was out of warranty, and I was using a specialist... The 'other' car is a 2006 LandCruiser. Recently, had a minor, none warranty covered issue which I couldn't resolve. The local Toyota dealer took it in, fixed it and charged me £9 (lowest rate he could find on the system) for 40mins work. I don't mind paying for the work, my car is a priority (no car, no work, no money...). All that would have been appreciated would have been some friendliness... Bring it in, we'll have a look etc. It goes a long way - especially when you're talking to a new prospective client - it's your 1st impressions that count. I've found a local Citroen specialist (ex-franchise - where I bought my ZX Volcane when he was Franchise dealer), who will charge mea a nominal fee to set the ecu to recognise (the official from a dealer) Ipod i/face. He has the £6k equipment etc. Just due to his friendly attitude on the phone, fact they've worked with PSA cars for over 20 years, and bizarrely remembered me and my Volcane from 1994 looks to have a new client...! It was the offer of a free coffee that clinched it! Quote
