jhatter Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 I have a C5, diesel, 110bhp, 2.0 hatch. 52 reg (2003). 55k I have recently noticed that it has started to make a screeching sound. This happens after I have been driving for about 30 minutes, at speed (60-70mph), usually up the motorway. The sound is then intermitment and goes when I reduce my speed. It is not present when I park up. Any ideas what this may be please? Quote

kfk Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 if you apply the brakes at that speed does the noise dissappear? have you had anything done to the brakes/front hubs recently....cant remember off hand but is there a metal shield over the bottom ball joint?.....when the discs become hot could they be expanding and touching the shield? Some thoughts for you.....let us know what you find Quote

I think it sounds like a screech. It has happened twice on ignition and I have got out of the car, it appears to be coming from the engine bay. The one time I got back into my car, put it into reverse to get out of my parking spot and it immediately went off. Don't know if that was a coincidence. Quote

The most recent work I had done was the outer CV Gaitor was replaced (hope that means something to you). After my 50k service Citroen suggested my alternator belt was starting to break up. I took it to another garage and they said it looked OK. Quote
kfk Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Have you checked to see if the metal shield around the lower suspension ball joint is close too or rubbing on the inner face of the disc? When the brakes get warm they will expand and get fatter they could be making contact. Quote
