doctor1don Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 I have just changed the oil and filter on my 51 2.0 HDI LX estate.Reset the service counter. The dipstick says full but the computer says empty - flashing dashes. Will the computer eventually realise it has oil or does something else need resetting (kicking) ?Any thoughts pleaseRegardsDon :( Quote
kfk Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 Sometimes if the engine oil is overfilled it will also respond as you describe....is it over full?........was it working ok before you did the oil change? Quote
doctor1don Posted July 14, 2008 Author Posted July 14, 2008 Sometimes if the engine oil is overfilled it will also respond as you describe....is it over full?........was it working ok before you did the oil change? Was working fine before the oil change. Dip stick is showing oil to the maximum mark. I used fully synthetic oil - in case it has any bearing Don Quote
davidad Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 The oil level indicator on my 04 2.2hdi always flashes if the oil is right up to the top mark on the dipstick and the car is not perfectly level. Quote
techbod Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 strange state of affairs and goes back to the older cars and the advice was fill to the half way mark that way you don't have too much and not too little, I would personally be checking if there was a recall or even a TSB on it within Citroen techs area Quote
72dudes Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Both times my 2.2 HDi has been serviced (I've had it 2 years) the dashes end up flashing. The oil is usually just over the full mark on the dipstick. I was alarmed to read in the owners manual that flashing dashes mean "fault with guage", and not "over full" (this should be flashing dashes accompanied by the "Max" indicator also flashing. However, as the oil gradually gets used, it progresses to flashing zeros and then steady zeros. Also try re-starting after a run and you'll probably see steady zeros as the oil will not have fully drained back into the sump. My advice is to keep checking the dip stick regularly but don't worry too much about the oil level indicator - it will return to normal in the course of time. Quote
techbod Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 sounds familiar the VW TDi does the same but normally caused by mods trying to push the turbo to its limits and the oil cant circulate fast enough to compensate, as mods are not the issue here I would say the orifices in the oil ways might be the thing also the oil pump and strainer due to using cheap oil and not changing the oil filter when renewing the oil, I note the VW can have a larger oil filter to help with this perhaps worth a look on this engine Quote
