Guest smoothy Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Hi iv just bought a ballingo 1.9 diesel 600 1996. Im made up with it ,except for this weird electrical problems. 1) One rear brake light intermitently works2) Dash lights and Parking lights come on when brakes are used!3) If at night and the lights are on , when i stop the vehicle and turn the ignition off, I STILL RUNS! only when i turn the lights off does the engin turn off! I can be holding the key out of the igniton with the engine running using the lights to turn off the engine. Where do i start im baffled! Could it be just an earth problem or is it a cpu problem. Also what sort of mpg should i expect from the van PLEASE HELP!!! thanx Quote
techbod Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 sounds like a bad earth to me or even the ignition barrel black box very common to destruct because its plastic so the terminals tend to short out, http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articles/ele...t/ignition1.JPG Quote

Iv notice both elements in the bulbs are on when the lights are on thus you dont see hardly any difference when the brakes are applied. Could the ignition barrel interfere with the lights?? Is there a CPU in this car it is a 1996 model? Is there a relay that deals with both these systems? Please help its driving me mad now! Quote
kfk Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 What happens if you disconnect the rear light units and depress the brake pedal switch. Have you made sure the correct bulbs are fittedinto the correct bulb holders? Quote
Guest smoothy Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 What happens if you disconnect the rear light units and depress the brake pedal switch. Have you made sure the correct bulbs are fittedinto the correct bulb holders? yes i tried that today, was still making the parking light and dash lights come when pressing the brake, changed one of the bulbs today as well still no joy :-( The engine stayed on tonight with the key out of the igmition again ,the lights were left on but this time i let go of the brake and it turned off! There must be a short in a junction box some where or a relay ??? going to trace back the rear light wires tomorrow an see where that leads me , it is like an earth problem but find it strange how its also controlling the ignition key. techbod Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 is your alarm/remote plip/central locking /dead lock work, the reason im asking is I just did one on a 1997 and the problem there was water in the passenger foot well and it corroded the connections to the alarm/central locking plip (remote key fob ),the leak was from below the windscreen caused by excess leaves and dirt blocking the drains and the strange part is it was leaking down through the center tunnel ( the part where the gear stick sits ) I took the passenger seat out and partly removes the carpet and had to cut the sound proofing to get at the leak point ( the rust marking on the sound proofing shows where the leak was coming from ) I chopped the bad connector out and directly rewired and I recommend soldering the wires, engine running on with key out could be related to the fuel pump cut off switch on the fuel pump or the immobilizer and alarm issue Quote

kfk Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 As i suggested in post 5.......have you checked the bulbs........all too often we look too indepth for what are simple problems. Quote
