Can anyone identify the pipe in the pictures in the link? It's about a metre long and about 10mm in diameter and comes from the LHM reservoir. It then goes along the back of the engine to what appears to be a pump just in front of the driver side. Please excuse my lack of technical speak. I need to be able to identify it to GSF or whoever.

Don't know if the link will work, but there are 7 photos there. I've put a couple of strips of paper on the pipe for better identification.

Cheers in advance

not a 100% sure because I do little with diesels but it looks like the oil return from the turbo easily notice if you look under the car it will be wet with oil and it looks like the pipe is rubbing on the 3rd picture which is probably where its leaking from

It's a long time since I owned a Xantia and can't now remember the layout of the hoses. You probably have seven hose connections to your reservoir. Going from front to back - the first (front one) is the inlet for the high pressure pump. The second is the return from the pressure regulator or flow distributor (depending on whether or not you have PAS. Hose 3 is the return from the steering (PAS). No 4 is the overflow return from height correctors and pressure regulator. No 5 is the return from the height correctors. No 6 is the return for the ABS block. No 7 is the overflow return from the steering valve. The little tube from the filler is a vent tube.

Thanks for all your help.

I've discovered today that it is probably an oil return pipe from the doseur to the reservoir tank. It's leaking at the bit of pipe just before the jubilee clip joining it to the doseur. I'm gonna get the mechanic to try and bodge some pipe onto it until I can get the replacement pipe from Citroen - 4 weeks (£51).

wow how things have gone up in price and to wait 4 weeks ;) that's bad, to make a good repair cut the bad bit off then cut a section out of the pipe so you can add some 10mm copper pipe and slot it in and clamp with jubilee clips, simple but effective

There was quite a bit of slack in the pipe so my mechanic cut off the corroded/split inch at the end going into the doseur. Then jubileed the new join. Took 10 mins. Citroen would never have done it and would have made me wait for a month for the replacement pipe. I wouldn't have got much change out of £250.

now your mechanic thinks like me and out of the box, its important when doing jobs to save money for the punter and be honest about it and you will retain that customer ( dealers only fit new parts ) because its not worth their while doing botch jobs or need I say a cheaper fix other wise it would be full of returns to sort it if the pipe went again ( ok if its warranty work the cost is covered ) too many demons in the small print so beware
