I have just got a 1.9TD when i am drriving along some days the stop light and the orange warning light in the temperature flicks on and off, the water level is ok and the temperature gauge itself reads between 60 and 80 degrees. Does any one know how to cure this.

Many thanks

stop light is LHM fluid level, coolant light flickering could be a faulty/loose wire on the temp sensor, things to check are do the engine cooling fans cut in? if yes then I cant see it being a problem and down to the above,

does it blow hot air into the cabin? if not then it could be there is air in the system, if it blows hot then its a loose wire

I have the same problem. Sometimes the the orange warning light together with the STOP is on and temperature is about 80 and sometimes the temperature gauge shows almost 100 and the light is off.

Coolant level is OK,

To make the orange light off during the drive sometimes helps turning on the heating. (but it is very unconfortable in summer)

the STOP light is not only LHM fluid level. It also comes on together with others "fatal" problems.

You're right! The STOP light comes on with every engine abnormality. My daughter had this problem on her Xsara and a change of temperature sensor cured it.
