Evening

So obviously the windows are electric all round but in the last couple of weeks an odd problem has started. Drivers controls for all windows work fine except when pulling the switch upward for the passenger window, it actually drops in one long smooth action. Now, it can easily raised again from the passenger side control and on one occasion opening and closing the passenger door also worked. I haven't came across anything definitive so i'll be glad of some pointers.

Cheers

This appears 2b a common problem. The solution is to disconnect battery (negative first) for a couple of mins then reconnect. Then raise pasenger window and leave your finger on the button for about 20secs when it reaches the top, this apparently resets the window mechanism. It worked for me and i found the solution on here.

you shouldn t need to disconnect the battery because its global memory system so if you loose battery contact you need to reset all the windows/ sunroof etc to the memory in the ECU and that's when you press and hold each button all the way up and down to memorise it

so what are we saying here, disconnect completely or simply loosen?

What else will i have to reset in the car after reconnecting the battery?

I would try the window reset on its own before resorting to disconnecting the battery.

If the window works all the time correctly from the passenger side and the fault only exists when using the driver's side switch, then it looks like the switch is faulty.

Swap the switch (or just connections) for one of the ones for the rear or driver's side to isolate fault.

Are you pulling the switch fully up to auto close the window, or just far enough for it to go up while the switch is held?

I have a 2001 2.0 HDI and disconnecting the battery is no big deal, the ONLY thing you need to reset is the time and date on the LCD dispaly, even the radio doesn,t need a code.

the whole idea of not disconnecting the battery is not to reset the ECU which means you have to go through a drive cycle to reset everything so you cause more problems disconnecting it

@ randombloke it happens whether the switch is part way or fully pulled up, i find it funny tbh but something i'd like resolved. Also how would i go about swapping/isolating switches etc to clarify the exact nature of the fault. Are we talking about removing whole door panels etc or is there a simpler way?

If the battery solution is easier i'll pursue that but i can hear a click from the passenger door as i'm operating it on the drivers side after it has slid fully back into the window, that would suggest an actual switch issue - yes?

I had the exact same problem. It was the switch on the drivers pack. I dismantled it and cleaned all the contacts, reassembled.... Perfect. The whole job took about 45 minutes. The switchpack pulls out of the door by pulling the narrow ends alternately upwards. The switchpack is held together by springy plastic retainers, gently ply them back slightly with a thin screwdriver as you seperate the base from the rest of the pack. You only need to remove the base section to clean the contacts. Lift off the rubber contacts mat and gently clean the contacts and underside of the rubber contacts. I used cotton buds and some electrical cleaner.

Hi,

I have a problem that is loosely related to this; my passenger side mirror functions don't work, and I am guessing it would be either the sliding switch on the drivers side, or more likely a disconnected plug with the passenger side door, as the temp. sensor isn't sensing! The mirror does fold up properly though.

What i need to know is how to remove the door furniture without braking anything, can anyone help?

Thanks
