zippy Posted October 8, 2005 Posted October 8, 2005 We have just had to replace the nearside (passenger) front tyre on our c8 for the second time due to excessive wear on the outside edge. The tyre in this position only seems to be lasting 8000-9000 miles each time. We haven't skimped on tyre quality - Michelins have always been used- & have had to change no other tyres on the vehicle (car has done 18000miles now). Just wanted to check if others have this problem before spending £80 on putting the car on road simulation rollers, as recommended by our citroen garage, to see if it is a manufacturers symmetry problem & therefore claimable on warranty. Quote
hertsnminds Posted October 9, 2005 Posted October 9, 2005 A few years back I had a Pug 106 XRD and the same thing happened. At the time I was told that all Pug Diesels pulled more on one side and this made the tyre on that side wear more. Not sure if this was BS but I do know at one point Peugeot had a special compound of rubber made specifically for the 406 which had thicker side walls. I was told this be a tyre reseller who had purchased a batch of the tyres marked with an extra P (for Pug) in the coding. So it maybe that Citroen/Peugeot diesels still have this design feature. truemouse Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 Reckon it's just toe-in, and if you're driving just yourself (Shame on you - carpool) then your own weight (Let's face it, if you're under 100lbs, you need to see a doc) would be enough to give the driver side tyre more say as to where the car is going than the passenger side, therefore it'll have less lateral motion than the passenger side. Just a thought. I remember that a Citroen garage said 7 degress of toe-in was acceptable for my AX. I heartily disagreed. Quote
gazza Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 I've got just over 10k on my year old 2.0HDi- no problem with the tyres at all. One tip for the future though, Don't fall for the old MotorSave's "Your trackings out you know. Can we adjust it for you Sir?" Quote
gazza Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 I anyone is still reading this, here is some more info. The wheels and tyres on my car have all been replaced and upgraded from 15" to 16" under warranty. :P Quote
amb67 Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 Hi, How did you manage to get your tyres and wheels replaced under warranty? Was you suffering from the rapid tyre wear on the N/S/F or did you have another problem? I have just noticed that my 2004 C8 'Exclusive' has 15" wheels and tyres fitted when it should have 16" according to the sales specifications. I'm off to my local Citroen dealer to find out why this is and to let them have a go at sorting out my unusual tyre wear on the front. :) Quote
Johndouglas Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 I've got a C5 Exec Estate and the front tyres have worn down rapidly. Just over 10K on the clock and about 3mm of tread left. I mentioned it when I took the car for it's first service, but all I got was some b******* about cars with power-steering wearing tyres quicker. I had to point out that my previous Xantia went 35K on its front tyres. Upshot was that he said they would investigate, but when I went to collect, everything was reported as being correct. Quote
gazza Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 When I took my car in for its first service at just over 11000miles ( went in early because of a couple of recalls) the tyre report gave the following measurements- front:outer-5mm, middle-5mm, inner-4mm rear:6mm spare(unused)-8mm I later found out that C8's with 15" wheels have been replaced with 16". It's not an official recall, however, if you ask about it you may get it. That's all I did :P Quote
