proinnsias Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 Like many - My [2001 reg] C5 was a basic spec model, enough toys to keep me happy, and a low price to keep SWMBO happy too ... However - after time, the single-line dash display (radio chan + time only) was starting look rather dated, so on to ebay I went :) Got an "écran multifunction B" (the multiline display) - and swapped it in, a simple operation involving removing the cowelling (a flat blade gently inserted at the left and rightmost 'corners' of the hard plastic - there are two retaining lugs that will pop out .. The display then unscrews (two Torx T20 screws) and slides out. One quick swapover later (involving finding three functional backlight bulbs (No. 286 in halfords IIRC) and I've now got the multifunctional display including fully operational trip computer. It seems that many of the C5's functions are generic, and built into even the base spec models, and simple upgrades like this effectively increase the spec level a touch .. Next job - enable the fog lamps which, while fitted and wired up in the main headlight clusters, aren't enabled in the com2000 unit. I've a spare com2000 unit from a higher spec car (breakers yards are good !) and will have a go at swapping it in sometime over the next few weeks !) So, if your C5 is lower spec than you'd like - and you have access to breakers yards .. off with you to find some simple-to-fit upgrades ... What else have you done to the C5 to make it a little more comfortable ? Quote
iannez Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 the fogs are switched by the bsi and just given a signal by the comms. if you fit fogs you config the bsi and it turns on front fogs with first sig and rear with second. if its not config it will turn on rear with first sig so if you change comms it will stay as is. Useful to know ... is there a way of configuring that without the effort of finding a dealer ? My friendly dealers closed down a while back ... and I'm not too sure about the various new car-supermarket type dealers here ... (Ireland doesn't really have a good independant network in that sense - given most mechanics here see something that's not a Toyota or a VW and run a mile !) Quote
iannez Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 sorry m8 but you will need main dealer diag tool (lexia or proxia) to programme the bsi. Quote

I also have a 2001 c5 2.0 hdi LX and would like to upgrade the trip computer I have bought the head from a breakers yard and I am about to replace the old unit. However I'm told that the trip computer takes its info from the ECU and this mod won't work. Has anyone else replaced the head and is it as "easy" as Proinnsias said it is Regards Ken Quote

The mod that proinnsias is talking about is simply a display swap. The ECU is the same in both the car with the single and multi function display AFAIK, and several posters on the Planète Citroën forum in France have done the same upgrade. HTH. Quote

Its the display unit that sits in the dash, Mine was the single line display unit and I swapped it for the 2 line with the trip computer display (not the satnav version) It took me about 25 minutes to change it, and part of that time was looking for my torx srewdriver bits. It works perfectly and I'm well pleased with the upgrade Ken Quote
Phaeton Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Which car did the display come from a SX? Was it also a '51 plated car it came out of. Alan... Quote
trubmij Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 I have a 2002 2.2 HDI SX and the Multifunction LCD display is u/s. Only displays bottom half of screen. Bulbs OK. I bought a replacement off eBay but hadn't got my thinking head on at the time. The one I bought as a single line type off a C5 2.0 L HDI. So I am looking for one again. Prices on Breakerline are about £53 inc P&P and VAT, none available at present on eBay. Does anyone know if I could search for a compatible display from the Peugeot range too? IO so, what models/years etc. or even part numbers would be a bonus. Thanks. Quote
trubmij Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Supplementary question please. I have been told that even if I change the display that I will have to have it programmed by a Citroen dealer with my vehicle's details. Surely it is only a display - or does have some form of intelligence? Does this apply only to brand new units of will it apply to second-hand ones too? I have given a Citroen part number for the item. It is 00006155V6 - can anyone confirm it is correct for this model please. Thanks. Quote

Surely it is only a display - or does have some form of intelligence? Elsewhere on this forum you can find details of the one line LCD to 2 line LCD upgrade, simply swap the displays. You'll need to do a search for that. It also follows that you can use the one line display in place of the two line if stuck. As long as you are not talking about the colour one fitted to higher end vehicles, you should be fine. Please can we merge this with the previous thread. Thanks. Quote

I want to do a straight replacement, like for like, of the multi-line displays not upgrading, or downgrading. I did search the forum for answers to my questions without success, hence my post. My supplementary question came up after I spoke to a Citroen dealer after my first posting. Your reply does raise a question:- How do I merge the threads? I am a newbie to these forums. Thanks for your help and patience. Quote

Randombloke Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 I want to do a straight replacement, like for like, of the multi-line displays not upgrading, or downgrading. What I was saying is that if you can upgrade or down grade without needing to code the new display into the car, then you can do the same with a swap. Also, you have a working single line display, so can use that until you find a second hand 2 line display. That's better than no display at all? I did search the forum for answers to my questions without success, hence my post. My supplementary question came up after I spoke to a Citroen dealer after my first posting. Your reply does raise a question:- How do I merge the threads? This thread has now been merged with the previous one on displays so you can see the results. It's something that a moderator must do. Thanks kfk. Quote

If so you've probably got a blown fuse - the one that controls "display and navigation system" (if fitted) Quote
