I parked the car, switched off the ignition and the a few minutes later switched it to position 1 so I could lower the drivers side window, I opened the window by about 6" and sat in the car listening to the radio waiting for the missus, she turns up, I start the car put the drivers window up using the one touch and the window goes up only to return to the open position I had when I was parked. The only way to get the window to stay up is to inch it up, but if I go too far it opens to the 6" position again, any fixes or reset procedures.

The answer is to disconnect the battery and do a system reset, as below.

You'll need to disconnect the battery to fix this properly. Here's the 'safe'

method -

CORRECT REBOOT PROCEDURE FOR BSI

Put the driver's window down, lift the bonnet and ensure all equipment is

switched off.

Ensure all doors are closed and remove key from the ignition.

Wait for 3 minutes, disconnect the vehicle battery and wait 15 seconds.

Reconnect the vehicle battery, wait a further 10 seconds (do not open doors.).

Switch on the side lights through the driver's window.

Switch on the ignition and check system's functionality.

Hold lock button on key down for 10 seconds.

Remove key open & close door test central locking system.

Start the engine and complete the system's check.

Failure to follow this procedure could result in incorrect operation of many BSI

related items.

When you've done all that lower each window - then raise each one and hold the

button up a fraction of a second. Radio, clock, wiper settings etc etc will all

have to be reset but that's as per handbook. Don't panic if the engine fails to

start after this - usually locking / unlocking the doors sorts that out.

This procedure cures a multitude of sins on the C5. Oddly enough I had to do it

quite often on my previous car (a MK1) but have nevr hasd to do it at all on the

MK2

Just tried this as my drivers side window would go down (whichever you pressed the switch) but not up. It would however go up with the button on the remote. After trying this it didn't fix the fault and the remote wouldn't make it work either so had to take teh door to bits and remove the motor/gear and lift it manually then put it back together again.

Can anyone think of anything else to try?

If all the other windows work and the switch also stills opens this window, then it is likely the switch internal contacts need cleaning. If the door is still in bits try a 12volt supply direct to the motor to prove that it is not at fault.

I had a similar problem on a Saab and as a temporary fix I put a 12volt supply from the cigar lighter socket to the switch connector wires that went to that window using 2 plugs with reversed connections +ve and -ve so one plug inserted in the socket opened the window and the other closed it - I had to do this until I could sort the switch since I had to open the driver's window several times each day.
