scouser Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 Hi folks I was wondering if some body may be able to help please. I have a four year old C8 with 43000 miles on the clock. Lately the fault "Antipollution Fault" keeps appearing on the dash display. Took it to the garage who put their computer on it and said the fault code meant nothing so they cleared the error. However about two days later the fault returned again and to cut a long story short the garge ran a thorough diagnostic check and said the particulate filter is faulty and will cost £700 to fix. Has anybody encountered the same problem? and is it as expensive as this to repair? The C8 does not seem to be suffering any loss of performance and the fault tends to come and go but has been on constant the past couple of days. Thanks in advance Quote
techbod Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 the filter cant go wrong with low miles like that its designed to be reset and cleaned by Citroen on diagnostic tool at 56k, take a drive on the motorway and keep to 70mph for 1/4 mile that should clean it and turn the light off ( keep it at 70mph and don't excelerate or drop your speed ) otherwise you will loose the set up Quote
techbod Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 this is a how to change it when you need toN.B. : Replacing the particle filter does not require the prior removal of the catalytic converter/particle filter assembly .URGENT : Observe the specifications described in the technical documentation .1. Container sizeURGENT : Do not throw away the packaging of the particle filter provided by Replacement Parts .URGENT : Use this packaging to return the replaced component .Figure : b1jk062d Figure : b1jk062dApply the plugs and cover from the new particle filter to the ends and aperture (A) of the pressure take-off .Place the particle filter in the saved bag .Place the used particle filter in the original packaging .Return the component to the reconditioning centre .2. scouser Posted October 5, 2008 Author Posted October 5, 2008 Thanks techbod. Heading on a motorway journey in a couple weeks so do I just keep it to 70 mph for a quarter of any mile or as soon I hit the motorway? Quote
techbod Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 that's it mate it does the clean out all by its self and you should see some black soot from the rear ( not like the older cars when all you did was boot it ) these systems Are fully computer controlled sad it is Quote
scouser Posted October 20, 2008 Author Posted October 20, 2008 Well Techbod Just back from the motorway journey and the light was off on the way down but low and behold raised its ugly head all the way home yesterday. Tried the 70 mpt setup but didn't seem to do anything.Am I looking at replacing this filter or am I missing something. There is no drop in engine performance its just an annoying light thats coming nad going. :( Quote
techbod Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 its needs cleaning out rather than changing the garage has the diagnostics to do that and reset the ECU but you could clean it out with a jet washer after you take it out then dry it out before its put back in I think they are £25 new but it still needs to be reset and plenty of guys on the site have the tools for that depending on where you are like coastline taxi in sunderland http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citro...?showuser=10477you could pm him. plenty of links here to show you what to do,http://www.google.co.uk/search?sourceid=na...+the+fap+filter Quote
scouser Posted October 20, 2008 Author Posted October 20, 2008 Thanks techbodI'm in Galashiels in the Scottish borders know of anybody in this area? Does it have to be a citroen garage or is it within the remit of any garage? Quote
techbod Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 if a garage had lexia 3 it would be able to do it but doesn't have to be a Citroen dealer perhaps someone will see this post and contact you :) you could also ask the dealer to just clean it out for you and not to fit a new filter as they only clean them anyways as part of a service at 50k so shouldn't cost much to do that, personally after reading that review on the FAP filter I would just remove it completely because all it does is restrict the exhaust flow when it gets blocked so without it in there it should run better Quote
scouser Posted October 20, 2008 Author Posted October 20, 2008 Thanks techbod so technically removing it wouldn't do any harm to the engine? Is it easily accessible this filter or is it an up on the ramp job? thanks again Quote
techbod Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 http://i469.photobucket.com/albums/rr53/techbod/fap.jpg its in the pipe item 2 and car has to be on axle stands/ramps it shouldn't be too difficult to remove and I cant see it doing any damage because all it is is a filter a bit like doing a decat if you look at the images on this link it shows you where it ishttp://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=h...6GB297%26sa%3DN Quote
Johndouglas Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 so technically removing it wouldn't do any harm to the engine? You're a brave fellow if you do remove it. Goodness knows what the engine will do then. The sensors connected before and aft of the filter tells the computer controlling the engine management what to do. If you ignore the warnings displayed on the panel, eventually the engine management will ensure that the engine won't rev. You'll be able to creep along at a few miles per hour. What's the level in the eolys tank? Have you had the car from new - do you know for sure that the mileage is correct? Certainly the warnings shouldn't appear at 40000 miles. Quote
techbod Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 all the sensors do is measure the millage and the density of the FAP and other sensors like the o2 sensors wont throw codes because its not the same as if you did a decat the sensors have to be left in,the FAP filter has no electrical connections and not linked to any ECU and the light on the dash is a pollution warning and the FAP is getting blocked so if its not there it cant get blocked remember the early diesels don't have it so personally I don't see how it would make any difference if it wasn't there apart from the pollution factor which is in doubt that it works effectively and causes more noxious gasses than a standard diesel that's why Peugeot has put it on hold till the gov delve into its issues. I have been looking into the FAP system for a while now so I know a little about how it works :) Quote

I have been looking into the FAP system for a while now so I know a little about how it works :) I disagree - the sensors do more than "measure mileage". There are two which measure temperature and another two which measure pressure - both before and after the particle filter. So if there's a method of getting the two pressure sensors to fool the management system into thinking that the particle filter is there, then by all means Scouser should take your advice and dump his filter. When he's done it I hope he comes back and tells us how his car is running. Quote
scouser Posted October 20, 2008 Author Posted October 20, 2008 Thanks guys, I'm completely non-mechanical so I think I'll see how things pan out at the gararge. I bought the car at the start of the year second hand and the vehicle checked out legit for mileage. Out of interest where do I find the eolys tank? Quote
techbod Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 eloys tank is in the front inner wheel arch passenger side im told ( never worked on one yet ) :) FAP filter the other one is for the exhaust so here is the proper image http://i469.photobucket.com/albums/rr53/techbod/fap2.jpg DW10ATED TURBO DIESEL PARTICLE FILTER01 0341 E6 01 EXH MANIFOLD- DW10ATED TURBO DIESEL PARTICLE FILTER 02 0349 H4 01 EXH MANIF GASK- DW10ATED TURBO DIESEL PARTICLE FILTER 03 0353 07 08 PIPE SPACER8X16-40- DW10ATED TURBO DIESEL PARTICLE FILTER 04 0341 22 08 NUT WITH BASE8X125-11-17,5- DW10ATED TURBO DIESEL PARTICLE FILTER 05 0376 41 03 SUPPORT STUD8X125-25- DW10ATED TURBO DIESEL PARTICLE FILTER 06 0355 65 04 CYL-HEAD STUDM8X1,25-85-12-33- DW10ATED TURBO DIESEL PARTICLE FILTER 10 1709 30 01 EXH BKT SEAL- DW10ATED TURBO DIESEL PARTICLE FILTER 11 1705 LJ 01 PRECATYL PIPINGTR PSA K210- DW10ATED TURBO DIESEL PARTICLE FILTER AND BVM 1705 LK 01 TR PSA K210- DW10ATED TURBO DIESEL PARTICLE FILTER AND BVA 12 1731 S0RP 1731 X1 0101 CATALYST MUFFLRTR PSA K211- DW10ATED TURBO DIESEL PARTICLE FILTER UNTIL RPO No. 09155 1731 X1 01 TR PSA K211/244- DW10ATED TURBO DIESEL PARTICLE FILTER SINCE RPO No. 09156 13 1731 R9 01 NEW P FILT PIPETR PSA F004- DW10ATED TURBO DIESEL PARTICLE FILTER 1740 04 01 PF PIPE ST-EXTR PSA F004- DW10ATED TURBO DIESEL PARTICLE FILTER 14 1709 28 01 EXH BKT SEAL- DW10ATED TURBO DIESEL PARTICLE FILTER 15 1718 12 08 NUT WITH BASE8X125- DW10ATED TURBO DIESEL PARTICLE FILTER 16 1713 69 01 FIXING CLAMPDIAM 74,5- DW10ATED TURBO DIESEL PARTICLE FILTER 17 1755 91 01 EXHAUST MOUNTG- DW10ATED TURBO DIESEL PARTICLE FILTER UNTIL RPO No. 09981 1755 H7 01 - DW10ATED TURBO DIESEL PARTICLE FILTER SINCE RPO No. 09982 18 0355 68 08 STUDM8X125 IM15 L32 E6- DW10ATED TURBO DIESEL PARTICLE FILTER 19 1714 H4 01 PRESSURE PIPE- DW10ATED TURBO DIESEL PARTICLE FILTER 20 1714 A0 01 PRESSURE PIPE- DW10ATED TURBO DIESEL PARTICLE FILTER 70 6936 C9 02 NUT WITH BASE6X100 71 6934 27 01 WASHER-NUT6X100-6,25-10 72 6922 73 01 SELF-TAP SCREWSDIAM 6X100-12 73 6930 94 04 STUD8X125-72-16-12 74 6930 95 02 STUD6X100-22-16-10 Quote

techbod Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 annoying indeed I hate all this new tech thats useless to start with and a cash earner for the dealers ;) I would remove the bulb so it stops annoying you as the cars runs ok its obviously a bogus fault then rip the damned filter out cough :) Quote
techbod Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 http://i469.photobucket.com/albums/rr53/techbod/1830a72a.jpg similar to the pug but this is the c5 fap filter is in part 15 and bolts up direct to the turbo Quote
