Guest Xsara Drummer Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Hi everyone, I’m new to the forum but I’m hoping some here may be able to help me.... I have a Citroen Xsara HDI Estate 2000 (Mark 1 Shape) and I’m having real problem with my key fob.I bought the car second hand in March this year and love it to bits (first car that fits my rather large drum kit into the boot) but the key fob never worked until I figured out what was wrong with it. The PCB was missing a button, the button that unlocks the car. So I thought I’d try and get a key fob off eBay and see if I could re-program it or if not I could use one of the micro switches and solder it on the original key fob that I got with the car.The re-programming didn’t work at all, I’d found a few ways on the interweb and none of them worked. <_< So only choice left was the micro switch (which a good friend of mine soldered it for me) and it work for about 8 months until last week when the micro switch came away from the PCB board. That’s the history so far, so now for the question.... Other than buying a brand new key fob and having it re-programmed from Citroen at a cost of £130, is there any way at all to use an old key fob (bought from eBay maybe or sourced elsewhere) and get it re-programmed? As you can probably tell I’m at my wits end so if any of you could help or advise me, you would be saving me a lot of mental anguish and possibly going bald too. Thanks in advance,Darren. Quote
techbod Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 the remote is separate from the key/chip, put the key into the ignition and turn it to position II then press and hold the remote lock/unlock till the system bleeps which means its reprogrammed then remove the key from the ignition and try the remote, if the remote was from another car it wont work Quote
Guest Xsara Drummer Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 I think I tried something like that.I found out the info about it online. As I mentioned in my above post I did buy a key from eBay (which was identical looking to my original key fob but from a different car) and managed to change the key over to the new key fob. But after trying to re-programme the key fob to no success I had to resort to using the original PCB and solder on one of the micro switches taken off the new PCB. Does re-programming involve re-programming the immobiliser or the central locking or both? Quote
Johndouglas Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 You may find that reprogramming has to be done by a dealer. Quote
Guest Xsara Drummer Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Is there any way that I can get it done but not at Dealer prices? Quote
techbod Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 you cant reprogram a used remote the dealer will sell you a blank one ( unused ) then you can program it your self as already stated only the chip in the key can be programed with diagnostic tool Quote

I bought an aftermarket control unit and two remote fobs for about one eighth the price quoted by Citroen for just a key incorporating the remote. The brand available here in Australia was Warlock and an easy fit in the case of those two cars as the unit is just back from the interior mirror. Quote
