Hi all.

My C1 (2 1/2 months old), has just hit 1000 miles. Whats the score on check ups? I keep reading comments about a 1000 mile checkup, but I didn't get told about this when I bought the car......should I be having a service or something??!

Your C1s don't have a Service Spanner by the mileage clock then?

The C2s and C3s does. Even though its a 1,000 miles Free Post Delivery Inspection my spanner came on at 945 miles and I had the Service done at 973.

Well, in my country, the first free service between 1500 and 2500 kms has been cancelled. This leads to my first obligatory service at 15,000 kms (=approx 9400 miles).

It's simply a lights, levels and tyre pressures check, although some stealers do a test drive too. Nothing more than that. It's exactly the sort of thing a conscientious driver will do weekly anyway. Missing it will not invalidate your warranty.

If I remember rightly it is to be done in the first 1500 miles. So no problem. Read your service book for the definitive answer.

Its a nothing service, there is no oil change like in the golden olden days.

As TS says its just a check over, and replace anything thats fallen off.

No service spanner on a C1, its a basic motor. No frills.

I'm surprised at that as the Mark 2 Saxo had a Service Spanner.

Well I bought mine September 10th this year and was told that this inspection is no longer required (by the main dealer), however, it says in the service book that your warranty may be affected by failure to comply with the service schedule, so I am also confused and will be ringing the dealer as a precautionary measure when I put enough miles on the clock, and asking them to put this in writing or stamp my service book to put my mind at rest.

It is not a service, and has nothing to do with the service schedule, and will not affect your warranty.

Forget the days of yore when cars had to go in at 1000 miles for oil and filter, get the head bolts retorqued, that kind of thing. They check your lights, levels and tyre pressures - that's it. The hand book also advises that you as an owner do the same weekly.

If your service book is grey, then you will find a section in it that says that it does need a check up in the first 1500 miles. If this is the case then my advice would be to get it done. It is free and takes 20 mins. The fact that the salesman did not tell you about it on handover is not good and lazy.

If your book is red then this is not the case. Citroen have recently dropped this 1000 mile check as it is not really needed.

Some manufacturers would turn a blind eye to this being missed, but my experience with Citroen is that ANY excuse to invalidate a warranty and save a few quid they will do so. You still have time. Keep yourself covered and get it done. If the dealer says it's not needed and you have a grey book, get them to stamp it.

hmmm I agree with the above^ but I still think they are supposed to check the car out at 500 miles like the old days to ensure nothing has come loose ( not sure about the oil change ) sad if it has been dropped because these engines are not pre-run in like Honda so you will get metal particle build up in the sump, to be on the safe side its always better to check with the dealer and let them put the foot in the mouth at least that way the ball is in their court and your covered :( this is advice only

An oil change at 1000 miles (or whenever) was dropped 15 or 20 years ago by most manufacturers. Modern oils are so good, that to slap in fresh oil yet again at a very low mileage would delay the running in process, and on some high performance engines (especially motorcycles) the engines werent running in properly with a good working seal between the rings and bores, the bores would glaze, compression wouldn't be to par, and you'd often end up with a smoky engine that wasn't quite as frisky as one that didn't suffer thus. Especially prevalent these days, where chumps were dropping their oil out at 1000-1500 miles and replacing it with exotic synthetics in the belief they were doing good, when all they were doing is preventing the running in process from running its course.

just saw this thread as approaching my first 1000miles. phoned the dealers there now and they asked when i'd bought the car-mid september-I was told that the 1000mile service has been done away with from September....if this helps anyone. prob best to check with the dealer but my guess is if they never mentioned it at the sale, then you prob just need to go for the year/10k mile check....

Some Dealer's will still do the 1,000 miles check though. When my brother picked up his New C3 last week when we got home I was looking through the service book and saw there was no page about the Free Post Delivery Inspection so I rang the dealer and said Citroen has decided it dosen't need doing anymore but the dealer them selfs still are at no cost so I will take my brothers car in at 1,000 miles.

Depending On your dealer its worth asking if they are still doing it them selfs
