mlkey Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Can anyone tell me how I can check the air flow meter out on C5 2lt Hdi Just been through this with mine. Symptoms were a lack of bottom end power, was ok over 2100rpm. I opened up the air filter housing, removed the air filter, found water in the bottom of the housing. The filter was also wet. I then checked the MAF, there was some green corrosion on the wires inside the meter, and so it is being replaced. I have purchased a new one from ebay for £60 delivered, should be here today, will let you know the outcome (and the seller if you need one). Not sure if there is a way to reliably check these things without some sort of test equipment. If you unplug it and try the car, this just flags up an anti pollution fault and leaves you with no boost. What are the symptoms with your car? Quote

Guest briani Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Thanks for the reply. Tried a second hand meter but it was no good still loss of power and black smoke looks like I will have to buy a new one to really answer the problem. Brian. Quote
myglaren Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 I have read that they can be cleaned with carburettor cleaner but they are very delicate, if you touch the sensor wire it's a goner. Quote
techbod Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 not sure if its the same setup as xsara 2.0 hdito test it,it has a 6 pin connector disconnect it and probe the pin-outs cable side with a multimeter,2 and earth ignition on engine off should read 11 - 12 volts, component connected engine idling ,probe 5 & 6 reading should be 2 volts,5 & 6 engine idling - accelerate briefly voltage should be 4.4 you can spray the MAF element with carb/break cleaner but do not touch it the pressure of the spry is enough to clear and dirt/dust build up Quote

Is it an inconsistent power loss, maybe described as surging or pulsing? I had the black smoke issue when I first got the car, that turned out to be the EGR valve. Quote

I checked mine, but could see nothing really wrong. I changed it anyway, for a new one from a local factors marked with 1920 AG, looks like it's used Volks cars too, made no difference to full throttle torque or power but light throttle running became somewhat crisper. It takes about 5 minutes to change. Quote
