Guest Visa10E Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 The volume stalks on my 02 C5 2.2 HDi Exclusive keep sticking so when I turn the volume up it keeps going all the way to the top, then when I try and turn it down, that button sticks in and it goes all the way down to the bottom, its driving me nuts, is there ANYTHING on this car that is built or works properly?, would a squirt of WD40 do it any damage? kfk Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 i wouldnt squirt wd40 into it......the stalk your talking about just pulls out of the main switch assy.....seem to remember its about £30. Quote
fatgut Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 I would't either based on what happened to me today on our other car. A (desparate) mini-squirt of GT85 down the heated rear screen switch on a Laguna resulted in not only the heated rear screen continuing to not work ( following my failed attempt to repair the poor illumination of the heater controls), but also then the subsequent immediate permanent failure of that switch's illumination! Looking like complete new unit now necessary. Don't do it!! Quote
Guest Visa10E Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 Right well thats sorted that out then! I'll just have to put up with it I aint spending another penny on this car this year after what its cost me! Quote

I suffered the same problem on mine and here was the fix I used: (Engine off, no key in ignition) Find a toothpick and go round the edges of the buttons carefully with it. You find they are very grimy and its important NOT to push any of this grime into the buttons. Next, get a cotton bud with alcohol or a safe with plastic organic solvent on it and go round the buttons. Push the buttons in which will allow you to clean off the grime on the surrounding plastic. Keep carefully cleaning until the buttons push in and come back out without sticking. All the grime will need to be removed which has basically come from the driver's hands. When the buttons are moving freely, get some silicone lubricant and spray this on a fresh cotton bud. Wipe it into the areas you're just cleaned and allow it to dry off there. This will keep the buttons moving freely and hopefully avoid you having to do this fiddly, foul job again. I didn't pull the switch assembly out as I didn't know about this. Thanks kfk! Removal of the switch assembly should make this job so mush easier. Let us know how you got on................................ Quote
Guest Visa10E Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 Nice one, didnt think it was something as simple and straightforward as just dirt as everything else on the damn car seems to be complicated for the sake of it, like the DFP (which is a rant for another thread!) Quote
